“Best Western Linton Lodge Hotel, Oxford, ENGLAND”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

The staff service, facilities and meals at this hotel are excellent, even though it's a smaller hotel. It's not as far out of the centre of Oxford as it first appears - taxi rides to central sites like the Ashmolean Museum take only several minutes - so if the central hotels fill up and you can't find a summer vacation venue, take a look at this one. Its only issue is that it's a hotel retrofitted into a former house, so there are short flights of stairs and corner corridors on some levels that may present accessibility issues for people with limited mobility or heavy luggage. There is a lift available but this doesn't mean you won't have at least a couple of stairs to climb here and there. Overall though the hotel is clean, attractive, well organised and lovely, and in a nice quiet location, so it's easy to get some sleep.

This lodge has nicely appointed rooms with comfortable beds. Ask for room with a garden view..lovely grounds and gardens to relax in before starting your day or afterwards. Easy walk to Summertown, walking distance to Oxford Centre and close to bus stop. The breakfast buffet had many selections including a full English breakfast as well as cereals, fruits and yogurts. Porridge and eggs coked to order were brought as requested.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden view and a first floor room as upper level can get quite warm in hot weather

Nothing to write home about, very very average, verging on poor. Waited ages at reception to check in, no apology, lot of mix up over rooms we had requested 3 rooms close to each other, to begin with rooms couldn't have been further away. Eventually got what we had asked for in the newly renovated ground floor area. Rooms were small, hot, stuffy, uninspiring, and no window to open, small fans provided in 2 rooms, so we requested another in 3rd room, none available we were told. However, car parking good, taxi service to Oxford good, bed comfortable but too small, please advertise some king size beds soon, had we known a twin room meant 2 double beds we would have booked 2 twin rooms. Bathrooms ok, water not consistently hot in shower, wavered between cool, tepid, warm, hot and back again. No hooks in bathroom to hang anything up. Don't get me started on bar, girls pleasant enough, but as they were all from Eastern Europe they 'no understand order. I sorry Sir', very polite, but in the end I went round the back of the bar and got my own drinks, with their full approval and a lot of smiling and gesticulating! Breakfast not in any way worth 12.95, although most staff perfectly pleasant, the particular one 'welcoming' us into breakfast was very offhand, rude and it was not a good way to start the day. And last but not least, on the 3 most beautiful days in July, why on earth did no staff mention the beautiful garden at the back we discovered as we were loading the car up to leave?? We sat outside at the picnic bench in the front car park several times, to the knowledge of staff, never once did they advise us of a beautiful Victorian walled garden with original glass greenhouse, and silver lime tree in full bloom!! Come on Linton Lodge, please up your act, we are wondering whether to change our venue on our next trip to Oxford, which we take regularly. We have stayed with you at least 6 or 7 times now.

We stayed here on a recent trip to visit a friend who lived around the corner. If you don't have a friend who lives around the corner, I can't imagine why you would chose to stay here. The room was average and not very clean. The duvet was ripped. We had a first floor room overlooking a fence. In house breakfast was ridiculously expensive, but the nearest place to find any other food whatsoever was a 15 minute walk, which we did, as we like to walk. We had just come from another 3 star hotel, which was very high quality. Not sure how this hotel ended up with a three star rating. The one positive is the front desk staff, while not native English speakers, were all very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on an upper floor.

I booked the hotel near to the date of travel. Having read Trip Advisor reviews, I asked in advance for a quiet room.
On arrival I had a long wait at reception for checkin, but after that things went very smoothly.
My room exceeded my expectations, overlooking the back of the hotel and away from the road.
The hotel is modern and very pleasant inside. They had thoughtfully provided a fan in my room, as the weather was very hot at the time.
The toiletries were pretty standard, but a nice extra was a flannel - something I always use if provided.
The room was well equipped, clean and a good size. Nice bathroom, which again was very clean. Only one thing I could have done with was a larger shelf of some kind to put my wash things on - I have a lot!
The room was very quiet and I had a good night's sleep.
Breakfast was very good. They brought porridge on request, which was appreciated as I usually eat porridge instead of bacon and egg. The selection on the buffet was very good, and constantly being topped up.
I ordered room service and got an enormous plate of creamy tagliatelle - very good indeed. They also provided a 10% discount voucher for room service!
Staff are very helpful and friendly. They ordered a number of taxis for me that all turned up on time.
The only drawback of the hotel, is it's a bit out of town. However, you may see this as an advantage too, as it is away from the main noise and bustle in town.
In all, I would recommend this hotel and will definitely stay again when visiting Oxford.

Room Tip: If you don't like the road, ask for a room at the back of the hotel.

Stayed in a room that looked tired and obviously had not been part of the recent renovation project unfortunately the marketing implies that all the hotel has been refurbished - not true.
Staff are mostly young and foreign with limited experience and in need of more hands on direction from duty management particularly around the restaurant service, however they were very friendly and courteous. The restaurant menu selection is very poor and if staying for 3 or 4 days you would probably be looking to eat out after 2 nights, there are no daily special offerings on the menu.
The hotel location is very good for visiting Oxford city centre and the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Request a refurbished room with a garden view

We arrived to find out we did not have a reservation. The reservation was made for a month earlier and I'll never know how the mistake was made and can only blame myself -- but I never received any notice about the no-show. However, not only did they charge 100% for each of the rooms for a no-show, they charged us almost double for the 2 rooms we needed as a last minute check in. Bottom line is we paid 3 times what the room was worth - and for a tiny, uncomfortable, hot room that was not within walking distance to anything. Oxford is a lovely town to explore, but find a nicer hotel.

Please note that your original reservation, made by yourself, was made under our Advanced Purchase Rate and was therefore paid in advance and prepaid and not a no show. As you had made it for the wrong date this was not our fault and when you did arrive the room rates where higher.
