“Excellent location and staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and it was excellent, ok it is old, quirky, quaint, doesn't have all the "mod cons" of an anonymous chain style hotel, but it does have charm. The location is great, literally a few hundred yards (sorry I only know old money!) from the centre of Oxford, so easy walking and no need to take the car our.

Fortunately we stayed in the old part of the hotel, which was large, very clean, quirky and to get to it you go up an old original staircase. The room was well appointed, mini bar, coffee/tea making facilities, free Wi Fi, tv etc.

All of the staff are excellent, mothing was to much trouble for them, they made you feel welcome and at home.

Breakfast choice was limited but very good, I had the cooked full english for the three days we stayed and it was freshly cooked to order and the quality was consistant. The continental looked good as well, again not much choice but good quality.

I think the only downside is the car parking as there are relatively few spaces at the hotel, but they do have other parking facilities nearby, I beleive.

The hotel is dog friendly and all are made welcome.

If you want a modern "box" hotel then this isn't for you, however if you want something more personal and homely this is a must stay hotel in Oxford, we will be returning.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the old part of the hotel

Stayed at the Old Parsonage for a night after arriving in the UK following 27 hours of travelling by plane.
We were hoping for the Old Parsonage to be a truly luxurious start to a four week holiday in Europe, to really set the trip off on the right foot. That hope was why we paid the very expensive price set by the hotel.
Whilst the hotel and the room were quite comfortable, I don't think you could call it truly luxurious, and you really expect a lot more for the price. We were upgraded on checking in to a higher level room (thankfully) with creaking floorboards, and a narrow stairway up to the room in the attic area. Would hate to have seen the room that we actually paid the initially booked high price for! Having to then pay extra for breakfast certainly didn't assist either.
The hotel is an easy walk to the centre of Oxford and has parking adjacent. The staff were very attentive and always pleasant to deal with. The biggest negative....you don't get near enough 'bang' for all those 'bucks'.

We stayed at the Old Parsonage with our daughter who was just arriving to attend school at Oxford. Shared a family suite which was perfect and roomy. The food was wonderful, the staff very welcoming, and although it was too cold to use, the beautiful and welcoming patio at the entrance was so delightful to come back to after a day of sightseeing. Our room was beautifully appointed, the bed was very comfortable, all bathroom details perfect. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it.

Unfortunately we only had one night to enjoy this lovely old 17th century hotel. We arrived late at night and from the moment we entered were delighted by the old building, the warm greeting of the staff, the fire in the hallway, how beautifully decorated and comfortable it was. There was a feeling of great attention to detail, and much care that was evident in all the surroundings. Our room was quiet, bed was very comfortable, lovely sheets etc. The breakfast had enormous choice, was lovely and the service was great. It was early April and it was cold and snowing so we could not enjoy the outside terraces which must be lovely in warm weather. It was a short walk into the center of Oxford and they also provide bicycles if you want to venture further. If we had the opportunity we would certainly stay there again and would recommend it most highly.

Stayed at the Old Parsonage for one night as we were in Oxford for a friends wedding. A nice looking hotel and quite inviting when you first walk in however when you pay £225 for a night I would have expected a lot more. The room was tiny and had we stayed longer would have become claustrophobic. Thankfully we only stayed one night so it was simply a place to put our head down. What we were really surprised by was that this price didnt include breakast!

In short, way over priced....by a very long way.......................

Opening the studded tudor door was like walking through the wardrobe into Narnia;into another world; a lovely fire glowed in the hearth, calm and friendly ambiance, they had even upgraded our room!
Room was comfortably divine- very ancient stairway leading to lattice-windowed bedroom, huge bed fit for a king and queen. Nothing overstated, very Oxford.
Fantastic complimentary tour with Isabella, not to be missed.
Lovely restaurant, very cosy, good lighting, attentive service. Excellent food to compliment the surroundings.
We really hope we can return for more of this unique hospitality

A very beautiful and cosy English hotel in a great location for visiting Oxford. The staff were attentive and the rooms were a good size and well-appointed.

However, the 'superior deluxe' rooms we were in faced on to the car park and suffered from the early morning noise of staff entering the building through a door that banged shut each time, and from rubbish collections.

This wouldn't put me off staying again but I would make sure to request rooms on the other side of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the car park!
