“Lovely and Convenient”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

I had the pleasure of staying at this lovely little guest house in Summertown, Oxford. The rooms I used was clean and pleasantly furnished. The only downside although not for me but for a man using the basin to shave. It was a little narrow/small.
I have to say the Manager Sebastian was amazingly helpful and a wonderful host. So too were the staff.
Breakfast was lovely and just what one needs to start the day off.
There are many shops on your doorstep and the buses into city centre right on your doorstep.
Price was reasonable for Oxford accommodation and I have booked to stay there again in October.
I would recommend this to everyone!

Recently stayed here on a 1 night stopover, basically you get what you pay for, the rooms were not the best just somewhere to rest your head. The breakfast was again basic, served to you rather than self service.
Overall adequate.
Thought their pricing policy was a bit steep if you happen to break anything, coffee cup £15 to replace, a chair £100, not a chippendale in sight.

The best thing one could say about Lina Guest House is that its rates were cheap. That said, I thought it represented poor value for money for the following reasons:
1. Room was not clean. Dusts had accumulated in the standing lamp which showed a lack of attention to hygiene by housekeeping
2. Difficulty reaching reception for check-in. We were outside for a good 15 minutes before anyone picked up the phone.
3. Bathroom tiny with fixtures broken. The towel hang and the tap was broken.
4. Soundproofing in room not good as we could hear passing traffic.
5. Still a way off the city center

Look elsewhere for a better value.

We were in Oxford for a weekend City break. The guest house is about 25 minutes walk from the centre along a main road. Every website states clearly that the breakfast is continental and it looks very nice, but we requested an English breakfast as offered in the room folder and it was delicious. The owner could not be more helpful, and allowed us access to the room three hours early. We would happily stay there again.

Only booked it as a last resort,it was the only available triple room in Oxford for the dates we needed. And they obviously using it as an advantage , because for £105 a night the quality of the room and breakfast is very poor.
Beds are uncomfortable, especially single bed in triple room. Tap broken, shower is not properly powered. Its very noisy- traffic noise from busy road and hotel doors are paper thin -you could hear everything -doors slamming, bathroom noises, baby crying, etc. Blinds are not closing properly and there are no curtains in the room, so its very light even in the middle of the night because of the street lights on the main road. Breakfast is very poor - kids cereals, croissant, jam, toast and 1 baby bell per person. and its not self-service ,you get served and very slowly! We saw staff cooking English breakfast and asked if we could have one- they said its 40 min wait and you have to pre-order, they didn't even told us that it was an option till we asked!

I had to go up to Oxford for an exam and picked this place because it was 200m from the University building. Based right in the middle of Summertown, which had a really nice village feel. Lots of cafes, restaurants and charity shops to keep my wife busy over the 3hrs I was beavering away.
The guest house was quiet, clean and well furnished. We had a room at the back of the house with ensuite bathroom as opposed to just a shower room. We arrived at about 3pm which gave me time to do some last minute studying. There was a small desk by the window and availiable wi-fi, tea & coffee facilities, and clean towels all ready for us. The beds were firm but not rock hard and the decor was pleasant.
The only down side was there was a hair in the bath and the shower was slighty tempermental. It needed some fine tuning to prevent the in & out shower dance as the temp fluctuated. Once I had adjusted it prior to getting in, it was ok.
Breakfast was served from 8am(I think?) and was continental, croissants, cereal and as much toast as you wanted, orange juice and fresh cafetiere coffee. There was an english breakfast option available for a £5 surcharge and arranged the night before. My wife and I had the continental and it did the job nicely.
All in all a good solid B&B although maybe pushing its £85 room price however as I chose this location for convieniance it did everything I needed.

When we arrived at the guest house, there was a note on the door telling guests to call a number for check-in... so I had to call up an get instructions over the phone to get a key, unlock the door and pick up our room keys from an envelope left on the stairs. Other bewildered guests arrived at the same time. All a bit odd.
Room was small but a reasonable attempt had been made to modernise it (unlike the bathroom, with very tired fittings and taps that didn't work properly).
The breakfast was a complete con. We knew it was continental breakfast, but for £100/night thought it'd be a decent spread - cheeses, cold meats, different rolls/pastries (you know, like on the continent). Instead we got mini packs of cereal, a piece of toast each, a tired-looking mini croissant, 2 babybels (frankly laughable if we weren't so hungry) and some portions of jam and butter. Awful tea. Ended up going for a proper breakfast elsewhere and didn't even bother on the second day. I'd be amazed if any self-respecting French or German guest would recognise that as a continental breakfast.
Fine if it's a bargain option but £100/night it feels like guests are being taken for a ride. Agree with other reviewers that friendliness leaves a bit to be desired. Plenty of other options on Banbury Road - go check them out.
