“picnic cruise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We loved the idea of a picnic on the river though the weather on the day was grey and dull.Due to my bad organisation we turned up on the wrong day!- all credit to the "skipper" and caterers who were able to cope at short notice. The picnic was sumptuous-a long way from the jam sandwiches and pop of one's childhood, this was luxury food. We did enjoy the trip but this stretch of the river is not really all that scenic, especially early in the year-with trees in full leaf and bright sunshine it would be much better.

Dear Val

Thank you for your review. I'm very pleased that we were able to reorganise the cruise for you at the last minute. We do try to be as accommodating as possible. I have passed your generous comments about the picnic on to our caterers. You're right that the river is less scenic when the trees are not in leaf. Please do come back in the Summer to see the river in its full glory.

Kind Regards

Giles

“Relaxing Cruise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

We were booked for a river trip yesterday. As it turned out, the weather was not that good. When we arrived, we were very courteously greeted and the trip consisted of us and one other couple, lasting about two hours. The small boat was captained by Jan. He was friendly and knowledgeably answered questions put to him along the route. The battery powered engine meant a very peaceful and quiet trip, enabling us to talk and relax. We would be happy to take the trip again - though would prefer warmer weather next time!

“Lovely leisurely ride down the Isis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

We booked this as a Groupon and got a two for one deal, to be honest as I'd never tried a Groupon before it was my way of trying them out cheaply, and a great success it was too. Our trip was to be a two and a half hour trip from central Oxford up the Thames ( or Isis as the Thames is known in Oxford), we booked well in advance and had expected a warm Spring afternoon but the temperatures in 2013 were against us, and a cool cloudy April afternoon was what we got. This didn't spoil the experience for us, a bit of sun just might have enhanced it a bit. The boat does have rain protection but if it's cool wrap up. There were only two couples on our trip, the boat would hold up to 20 I think at a push, so it was nice not to be crowded, and we chatted to the other couple and the "driver" as he took us on our leisurely ride up to Iffley Lock and a bit beyond and back, very pleasant way to spend two and a half hours. We had drinks in the restaurant before the trip too which was nice. I wouldn't recommend for kids who I think would be bored.

“Restful but too long”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

The captain (Jan) was very knowledgable and happy to expand on questions asked. The boat was comfortable and blankets were provided if needed. The river trip was 2 hours long and to be honest that was more than enough as there was very little to see. It would have been much more interesting if we had gone through Oxford city and managed to see some old buildings and places of interest.

I'm very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the cruise and that Jan was so informative.

It sounds like you booked our longest cruise and it might have been that our shorter 50 minute sightseeing cruise would have been more suitable for you. The longer cruise is best for those really seeking to emerse themselves in a taste of river life.

The River Thames flows through some beautiful scenery and some views of the colleges can be seen at Christchurch Meadows. It would be great if it flowed through the centre of the city but unfortunately we are not able to reroute the river however much we would like to!

“pleasant river cruise to sit back and watch the world go by but you wont see many Oxford sites”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

if you want to see Oxford you must go on a walking tour (go for footprints on broad St) as Oxford does not make the most of its fabulous river.
having said that the cruise was comfortable (blankets if your on a grey/cold day) and skipper very friendly and happy to chat and point things out. on the river you will see a few sight eg Christ Church (as long the trees arent in leaf) the boat house and Iffy lock and not much else but a very pleasant way to spend a hour.
£12 if you pay when you turn up or £9 if you book online - not sure if would recommend ifyou are on a limited budget for your visit a walk along the river footpaths will make sure you see the same things
