We stayed at Thamesmead House during Regatta Week, and were prepared to pay double the normal room rate of £125 (so £250) for the standard of hotel and convenience of it's location.
What I did not expect was to be woken at 4.30am by the waste lorry emptying bins at the pub opposite for 15 mins, then the bread van at 6'ish, and then the tanker for mobile toilets travelling up and down the road. The owners told me they did not hear a thing as they are at the back of the house.
Breakfast was accpetable, but a simple order for poached eggson brown bread resulting in a poached egg on white.
Ok, so not the most serious of issues so far. What I do take exception too is being charged £2.00 for a .45pence paper. I thought the charge was for a tray of tea in our room, only noticing the detail later.
I did call the hotel, who told me 'there was a cost in having papers delivered, and that as a business they had to make a profit where they could'. I would have thought for £250 they could have been a touch less mercenary.
We will not be staying there again.
