“Classic pub but cold service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2010

We stayed at the Inn on a weekend night in March 2010. The interior of the pub is exactly what you imagine a country pub to look and feel like. Great selection of beers and spirits and a nice fire. The rooms were a bit dated but that was to be expected based on previously read reviews (and you stay at a place like the Falkland for the pub ambience, not for the rooms). Unfortunately, the proprietor and staff had none of the warmth that the pub itself exudes. Every question/request of the proprietor was treated as an imposition.

I would still visit the Falkland for an afternoon pint any day, but I would pass on overnight stays unless management puts forth a little more effort.

Had a one night stay here in chilly October and was a bit disappointed though I really wanted to like it. The pub is great and its beautiful to look at and the food was lovely too. The bar is very cosy. However the 1st room we were shown to was freezing cold, had a broken heater and the shower didn't work. We were moved to an attic room which was better but again the heater didn't work properly. Its a charming olde worlde place but at the price they charge for accomodation the basics should at least work - I wonder wether the building is too old for modern guests (?). That said, we had a nice breakfast in the morning and were on our way but I do think whoever owns it (brewery?) should plough some cash into upgrading the bathrooms and heating. Its an atmospheric place and was full of local farmers when we there so retains an air of an old country pub which is great - it could be a gem with a little TLC.

my family are from Aus and we are very into the show midsomer murders, and this town was a picturesque town that looked like a typical town in those kind of shows (minus the murders). We arrived late at night and that was no worries, as we came straight in time for a lovely pub dinner and a pint before heading to bed. i stayed in the room right up the very top with our own spiral staircase! the room was very spacious, great bed, adequate bathroom, good tv and a gorgeous view. Breakfast was great, with cereals and hot food and great juices to choose from. Would DEFINITELY be coming back, loved every minute of it. ignore the bad reviews!!!

We stayed in room 4 with the four-poster bed. I thought the bed was very comfortable but my husband is just over 6-feet in height and did not fit too well in the bed with the footboard. (I should have thought of this before booking that room!) The room was nice and clean enough. The floorboards on the second floor are very squeaky---you can hear anyone else walking in the hallway but people settle in around 11 p.m. I did hear the garbage truck come by early one morning---very loud as the windows are not very tight. This goes along with the territory of sleeping in an old building though.
We ate in the pub the first night. Both my husband and I ordered the sea bass and were disappointed. We ate elsewhere the second night. The chef does make some awesome pastries---I did enjoy the dishes that included pastries (appetizer at dinner and the breakfast pastries!
