“Lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012 via mobile

We stayed here for a wedding, the setting was beautiful. Rooms have everything you need we stayed in the old wing basic but functional. Breakfast was ok not the best ue had but everything you need is there. One of the nights we ate in the brassiere, food was lovely there and well worth the money. Overall a pleasant stay, a little hard to find but beautiful once you get there!

I was convinced I had booked in the Crowne Plaza but having presented myself at reception I was told we were in the main old house. This sounded quite nice so I duly made my way up to what is a really impressive looking building. However, the room (one of many rooms added to the outside of the building) as well as being a long, long walk from reception (S235), was tiny. The bed was 3/4 size and the bathroom was small and dated with a small shower cubicle. The room was freezing when I went in. The radiator (the only form of heat in there) was turned off. It reminded us of student accommodation a bit. We ended up paying an extra £30 for a room in the main house, as we simply wouldn't have fit in the bed in this room. I don't like to post negative comments but I have to suggest you don't take one of these rooms if you stay here - you will be hugely disappointed! We ended up in the "Garden Room" which is a nice, big room with a huge bathroom having a stand alone bath, twin sink and walk in shower. There was some damp in the room with wallpaper hanging off above the mirror and a real musty smell outside the room. However, this is an old house and to be expected to some degree. On the plus side, the house is lovely inside and the bar is very comfortable, although not always manned. The staff are nice but I'm sorry to say, despite this being a beautiful building, it's not on my list of "must return" hotels.

Room Tip: Stay in the main house

Stayed in the old part of this resort, not the brand new Crowne Plaza building next door for a week long conference. It has a beautiful old Main Building and several of the rooms are decorated in grand style befitting a Duke, which is what the house was originally built for. The standard rooms were basic but the food and the service were very good.

We took our friends from the US to stay at Heythrop and they absolutely loved the experience. Stay in a suite in the main house, we stayed in Berry and Hampton, both were wonderfully decorated with awesome view. We also had the spa stay package and the spa facilities and treatment were very good. The spa is in a newer wing extension.

Room Tip: Stay in a suite in the Main House. Berry or Hampton were exceptional.

Check in was efficient and friendly with plenty of information offered with regard to history, options for food and facilities. The room however, was a big let down. Not enough room to swing a cat, I quickly went out to explore nearby Enstone, visiting the local store with a quaint cafe. The old house is truly impressive albeit looking a little let down and neglected in places. Views around the park are stunning though. I was only staying for one night on business with a colleague, we decided not to eat at the hotel but visited The Crown Inn about a mile away, delicious food and great service.

My fears were realised when I had a sleepless night on a mattress that seemed to have no support, the curtains did not close properly but at least the room was clean. You can't help thinking that whatever group owns this property, they are missing a trick. The house is begging for a complete overhaul to become somewhat more upmarket.

Room Tip: Upgrade and stay in the Main House

the receptionist was very nice, she upgraded us for some reason when we arrived to a bigger room it was called jasmine. the hotel is very old, grand style, it is a ramshackle you could get lost very easily. you have to walk through the hotel to the crown plaza if you havent booked dinner in the heythrop. my advice would be to stay in the crown plaza part if you dont like grand mansion style living.

The architecture as you said is lovely and of an old, grand style. But we are lucky to have the modern Crown Plaza, which gives our guests a choice We look forward to seeing you in the future.

We stayed here for two nights. We were booked into a room just along from the main house the room was very small so we asked if we could upgrade they did not have anything availalbe for both the nights that they could updrade us to for free, but they did offer us a suite in the main house at an extra cost, it was definatley worth doing we had a lovely suite it was very clean and comfortable. The reception staff were very helpfull as were the bar staff and the leisure club. The lesiure facilites were lovely and modern, pre book the spa if you want any treatments as I was very lucky to get in for a treatment on the Sat. The breakfast was better the 2nd day in the main house terrace restaurant the 1st day in the crown plaza hotel the food was quite cold. The bar in the crown plaza was again nice and modern. We ate at the pub called The Crown in enstone the food there was excellent. All in all a nice relaxing child free break the grounds in which the hotel is set in is amazing.

Room Tip: Try to stay in the main house even if you have to pay a bit extra.

It was a pleasure to read your review. It is so important to have time out from the hustle and bustle of a hard working week (or a well earned break from children - as most parents know that no matter how good they are, they are still hard work) and to spend some quality time relaxing with your partner. The Crown in enstone is a short walk, but I am glad that you enjoyed the local hospitality. We take great pride in making sure that all our customers have an enjoyable and a relaxing time. Our aim is to maintain high standards. The team look forward to seeing you again It really matters to us that our guests receive the very best service. Regards J Angus Resort Director.
