“Revitalised by the new management”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

Very pleasantly surprised to find a new management couple in place at this village pub. The food offering is reasonably priced good quality pub grub style, the beer range varies and is well kept with Hooky Bitter, Fullers London Pride, and Morlands Old Golden Hen currently on offer.

Nice flagstoned bar area with woodburning stove in the big fireplace, separate snug and good sized dining room.

“A welcome breakfast on a cold morning”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

Not the most salubrious of surroundings, but the service was friendly and efficient. Had the full English on a cold Saturday morning. The open fire was a welcome sight, but was surrounded by a crowd of coffin-dodgers.
The food arrived promptly and was good enough. The coffee was a bit on the weak side.
Worth doing if you want a quick and not expensive breakfast.

“excellent, clean pub food and a friendly welcome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2012

No complaints at all, we've been here for evening meals 3 times and always received consistently piping hot, tasty and cooked fresh-on-the-premises food (no unwrap and ping here!).

The landlord (who looks like Jeremy Clarkson, but we all have our cross to bear!) is a super bloke who prides himself on keeping his ales and lagers etc in tip top condition.

Village residents can also order the food to take away, and this also seems to be a popular option if there's anything good on the telly!

Top notch basic pub food served with a smile.

“OFF THE BEATEN TRACK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

This is a traditional village pub, built in the 18th century (1750-55),but changed over the years, but still keeping many of it's original features.Having now visited the pub twice and received a warm and friendly welcome from both Tony and Jackie Bass,I know that we will be back to eat there again. There are 3 or 4 real ales on offer plus all the other types of alcohol and soft drinks for car drivers. All food is made fresh to order, with a choice from Omlettes to Steaks,Jacket Potatoes to Pizza's,at a reasonable price. We highly recommend the Hunters Chicken, all produce sourced localy where possible.Eating can be in the bar area or in the 30 seater dinning room (sunday lunch book early).
