We stopped for lunch on a bitterly cold Frebruary day and were delighted with the welcome, the wonderful old building, the food and the service. The loos were spotless and had individual hand towels for each guest and good quality hand soap and hand cream.
We were offered the option of sitting with a small table, next to a log fire in a quiet lounge area. As I was feeling cold and lurgy it was absolutely wonderful to relax by a log fire in a comfy wing chair. Our lunch of confit of duck was delicious, and beautifully presented, though maybe a little short on vegetables. The staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, made sure our every need was met and the fire was kept blazing.
The lamb dates back to the 14th Century and is reputed to be the oldest pub in continuous use, in England. We shall certainly return and hope to sample their accommodation at some future date.
