“A Good Choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2011

We stayed at the Bull for 2 nights and found the hotel very comfortable. There were several minor quibbles regarding our room, the net curtain fell down, tissues used up and not replaced, carpet wasn't hoovered whilst we stayed there but these were minor issues. The bed was comfortable, the room was warm and the bathroom was spotless and there was plenty of hot water. The food is superb. Good choices for breakfast and all cooked to order. We dined both nights once in the Bar and once in the Restaurant and everything was so well cooked and presented. Service was friendly and helpful. Good base to tour the Cotswolds, we shall go back.

Cenrally placed on the high street, and for The Cotswolds, The Bull offers the charm of an old coaching house with some of the best food, dinner and breakfast, that we have ever eaten.

Room Tip: Go for the dinner/b&b package.

stayed for three night,s on a bed & breakfast break, Jean & Clare made us very welcome from the start, which is always a good sign.
all the staff where very friendly,Joe looked after us well with both the food & the drink not forgetting our travel routes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! which is the best way to Blenheim??????
Breakfast was superb & every course was cooked really well(when Jean improves on his waiter service, all will be fine.(only joking) we could not fault & the freshly squeezed orange juice was a treat to be--hold.
We only had one evening meal as we always eat early evening, but again we could not find fault (and we did look for faults)
All in all we had a great three day,s & we will definitely be back
Thank -you all

Room Tip: we stayed in the queen anne room--very quite

It's never, ever a good idea to plan a trip with only one hour to spare for the research. But that's what happened when I was told I was due an extra week off work and we decided to round this week off in style. We plumped for my favourite part of the England, The Cotswolds, for a luxurious treat. The Bull rated highly for accommodation and The Angel for food...so we booked both, separately. I explain all this not in self-absorbed 'twitter-ish' way of telling you my cat's name and what I had for breakfast. But, in our haste, we missed to whole point of The Bull.
Had we had time to examine the reports, we'd have found that it was attracting excellent reviews because of the food; not due to the rooms.
So we were expecting wall-to-wall good taste and boutique style fittings only to find very traditional dark furniture which - albeit a four-poster - was a bit dreary and dark. It was also next to a very busy road...quite a factor on a Saturday night as cars came by 'til the early hours and then motorbikes started to roar into town early enought to spoil a lie-in.
We went to The Angel and had a great meal and the room at the Bull was pleasant enough. But here's the rub.
The following day we all got up wanting a shower and the hot water simply would not work...nothing coming from the hot taps. After a bit of fiddling, my husband got it going in the bath/shower so I duly jumped in and lathered up with shower gel...only to have it stop again. I'm a coward so showering off in the cold was not an option. I got dressed feeling very grubby and sticky - went and enjoyed a lovely breakfast - and then my husband went to settle the bill and I 'hid' in the car feeling a bit less than my best.
Naturally I expected the lack of hot water to be reflected on the bill. Instead, my husband said the owner was polite, explained all the problems he'd been having piping hot water to that room and offered a discount...on our NEXT visit.
This is the sort of thing I can suck up when the price of the room is cheap and cheerful; but not when we paid £165 (three of us in room).
Why I feel aggrieved is that the people who wrote such positive reviews did so because they also ate at The Bull - the meal being the best part...like I said at the start - we missed a trick here.
In fact, on the way out of Burford we passed a cheap and cheerful hotel - you know the ones - and I recall thinking...bet they've got hot water in there.

Room Tip: Eat and you will be merry

Stayed for two nights during the Cheltenham NH Festival on a dinner B & B basis following the TripAdvisor Reviews.
Great - Food was very good and good value for money in the restaurant. Three course dinner with interesting albeit limited options and a few extras included. Home made bread was outstanding and the style of cooking was high quality classic food with a twist. e.g. deconstructed picallili with the pork. Also the wine list was reasonable value.Breakfast was just as good with fabulous home made sticky muesli and the hot food cooked to order with good quality ingredients.
Good - refurbished in 2010 the proprietors have used high quality linens, etc. So the sheets, towels etc are above standard for this kind of accomodation. Staff were also very friendly - the family are fully involved.
Not So Good - only issues surround our room. We had the Trafalgar Suite which is above the restaurant and was noisy until around 11pm. Also the bedroom furniture etc is very old fashioned. This room has clearly been refurbished but would really benefit from a sofa and a new bed rather than the old fashioned creaky bedsprings and low level seating from c 1960's etc etc This knocks my personal asessment to 4 out of 5.
I've stayed next door at Burford House where the rooms are better, but the food is not as good in my view. Maybe I should stay in one and eat in the other?

The family running this little hotel are great.SInce there were no rooms for us 2 plus our daughter, we got to rooms at a special price. Thank's. The rooms were a bit cold, but nothing we couldn't manage. (it was a very cold few days). The breakfast was fantastic. We also had dinner at the Hotel, and it was truly superb. We slept like babies. Very quiet rooms. Very comfy beds!

Charming 500+year old family operated hotel in pretty town in gorgeous part of the country.
Staff couldn't be friendlier. Located right in the middle of town with plenty to do and a good base for exploring the Cotswolds.
