“A little Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

We stayed for two nights on the 1st and 2nd of January 2014 and could not of wished for a better experience. We stayed in the Farriers room which although a little on the small side was beautifully decorated and clean, with a large bathroom. We ate breakfast both mornings which was wonderful and ate dinner in the restaurant one evening. The food was amazing. A myriad of tastes and flavours. The staff were all polite and helpful Nothing was too much trouble for them. They want you to have a great stay with them. I will not hesitate in recommending The Maytime.

Room Tip: If you can opt for the Hunting room. But all the rooms we saw were lovely.

My girlfriend and I were looking for the perfect place to spend New Years Eve and stumbled across what we believe to be the most idyllic Inn hidden away in the beautiful Cotswolds countryside. Our room was stunning (the tack room)...rustic and warm, as is the setting throughout the Inn. The service is exceptional... David (waiter come barman) could not have been more polite and nothing was too much trouble (even delivering a fanta to our room on New Year's Day morning to help cure the hangover). The owner Dom and manager Frenchy were so friendly and helpful. We had the best evening and intend to return many times again in the future. It's only a matter of time before everyone hears about this little gem...is it any wonder it was recently mentioned in the telegraph? AA Gold 4* award??? Baffles me how it isn't 5*

We met up with another couple for a light lunch.First impressions were good.Stylish and warm atmosphere, but not particularily busy.So rather surprised that it took nearly 3/4 of an hour for our food to appear. When it did ,the plates were almost cold and the food was not that hot.We did not bother to have dessert as did not want to have yet another wait. When the waiter asked how everythihg was,and we told him,the reaction was of annoyance on his part.So no tip left, something
that I would always do.

This is the second time we have visited this restaurant and we nearly didn't because of some of the negative comments which were posted on TripAdvisor. We called literally five minutes before and the lady who answered the phone was lovely - she also was our waitress for the evening and she was absolutely great - a credit to the Maytime. They have quite a diverse range of choices for starters and mains courses but less so for dessert which was a shame because I was really looking forward to that particularly course. I had vegetarian sushi which was very nice and my husband had duck which was cooked beautifully. The wine list is adequate rather than extensive and the only disappointment was the desserts - both were pretty average and we both left some because we did not want to finish it - highly unusual for both of us. Overall, really enjoyable and reasonably priced evening.

Stayed here with a colleague and booked this through our corporate hotel service, which can only assume to be some sort of mistake as their usual fare is either the (generally fine) big corporates like Marriot or rather less so mid range private hotels. This however was a real revelation with individually delightful rooms, an excellent dinner & breakfast menu - with lovely touches like the "tea-timer" a sort of 3 part egg timer for strong, medium or weak - all at a very acceptable rate. Have already penciled in a weekend away as a base for Oxford and visiting friends.

I visited with friends on a walk around the local area. We had a sandwich and a drink. To be honest it's more of a restaurant and hotel than a cosy cotswold pub. I guess we were looking for a cracking log fire and a ploughmans lunch. The pub looks lovely from the outside but all very stripped out and clinical on the inside. Sandwiches were a bit tastless and expensive. Not my cup of tea. Have to say service was good though.

We had a lovely meal with great service from the bar and waiting staff. They were attentive without being over bearing. The food was delicious and I would through recommend the cheese as they give you details and accompaniments to go with each one type and they are local.
A great time in a lovely atmosphere.
