We stayed in the Lamb Inn for a weekend of relaxation, our first time in the area. Rooms were very comfortable, with nice touches like apples and flapjacks as well as proper tea and coffee making facilities (no Nescafe or tea bags!). We were awoken very early on the Saturday morning by small kids in a room upstairs - not the parents' fault, but some warning from staff that it could be noisy would have been welcome so that we could have requested a move to a quieter room.
We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food really is good - although for some reason the starters (and between 4 of us we tried all of them over the two nights!) were less impressive than mains and desert. The duo of beef was really sensational, and a toffee apple tarte tatin with crumble ice-cream was the highlight of the deserts. Service was very good the first night, less so the second when we were last in in restaurant and got the impression we were were a bit of a nuisance (despite the fact that it was only 10.45pm!)
We used the hotel as a base for great long walks on the Saturday and Sunday and it was great to be able to relax in between in comfy armchairs beside the many log fires. The only real downside is the price - 2 night including dinner, wine etc came to ST£600 per couple and at that level I would expect the slightly haphazard service to be capable of improvement.
