We stayed in the Lamb Inn for a weekend of relaxation, our first time in the area. Rooms were very comfortable, with nice touches like apples and flapjacks as well as proper tea and coffee making facilities (no Nescafe or tea bags!). We were awoken very early on the Saturday morning by small kids in a room upstairs - not the parents' fault, but some warning from staff that it could be noisy would have been welcome so that we could have requested a move to a quieter room.

We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food really is good - although for some reason the starters (and between 4 of us we tried all of them over the two nights!) were less impressive than mains and desert. The duo of beef was really sensational, and a toffee apple tarte tatin with crumble ice-cream was the highlight of the deserts. Service was very good the first night, less so the second when we were last in in restaurant and got the impression we were were a bit of a nuisance (despite the fact that it was only 10.45pm!)

We used the hotel as a base for great long walks on the Saturday and Sunday and it was great to be able to relax in between in comfy armchairs beside the many log fires. The only real downside is the price - 2 night including dinner, wine etc came to ST£600 per couple and at that level I would expect the slightly haphazard service to be capable of improvement.

We discovered the The Lamb Inn one year when we stayed in the Cotswold area. Since then we have stayed a total of 6 to 8 times, with a must in March and Oct every year. The staff is wonderful, the food is to die for and Burford is lovely. It is not cheap but worth every penny we pay. We could go abroad for a long weekend but The Lamb Inn wins every time we need a break. We back with them again at New Years Eve. We both cant wait. And we stayed before the renovations and since.

I paid 185 GBP for a nice room facing the street. Yes, it was expensive but the ambience, location and charm more than made up for it. The hotel has a charming interior and exterior look that fits in perfectly with the Cotswold environs. The location is just a block away from Burford's main street and all of the Cotswold villages are easily visited in a 1/2 day loop drive from Burford. If you can afford it this is a fun place.

2 things to know: 1) The hotel has no carpark so you're on your own to find a parking place on the streets which can be very difficult on busy days (mostly every day). The hotel front desk will tell you that you can park at another nearby hotel but their lot was completely full. 2) The hotel has no night staff so if you're going out early in the morning you will find all of the doors locked from the inside and you're on your own to find the necessary keys. How this passes muster with British fire safety regulations is a puzzle to me.

We booked two rooms at the Lamb Inn- Burford in July 2005 and were very disappointed. Overpriced and Overrated!
My wife and I stayed in the Tannery room. The mattress was broken and should have been replaced years ago. The bathroom walls and tub were covered in black mold. The second room was in similar condition. Finally, the dinner setting in the garden was nice but the service was horrible.
This hotel needs a lot of work and should be avoided at all costs.

The Lamb at Burford. This was voted best dining pub in Oxfordshire 2004 and thus we were excited to be having dinner at the bar. The meal was the worst I have had in 35 years. It was atrocious. The bar was empty, the menu uninspiring. We ordered Aberdeen Angus sirloin and a side order of vegetables. We were served thin, stale smelling pan-fried pieces of meat which were no different to budget supermarket steaks. It was unpalatable and my wife's was served rare when she asked for it to be cooked medium. The 'vegetables' consisted of a bowl of boiled cabbage and three soggy carrot pieces.

We were extremely disappointed and upset, especially because we rarely get the chance to dine out. We could not believe how far from the truth the description of this place was.

I regret paying for this meal.
