My husband and I stayed here last night on one of the Simply Sunday offers. We arrived into an extremely busy Burford and struggled at first to find somewhere to park ( no spaces left in the main car park). Luckily We managed to find a space in the road that runs along the side of the hotel.
We were greeted at reception by a lovely lady (really wish I had taken her name as she was a star!) who showed us to our table for lunch and kindly took our bags up to the room for us.
We were lucky to have the Centre Stage Dining Room to ourselves and enjoyed seeing all the theatre posters. Dinner was amazing, the most delicious roast dinner and the chef had kindly made a nut roast for my veggie husband. Pudding was a beautiful apple and blackberry crumble with ice cream....I was expecting it slopped into a dish (like i serve it!) but it came in small dishes and presented on a slate. It tasted heavenly. After our mountain of food we were checked into our room - Wychwood, which was situated at the front of the hotel overlooking the road. The room was clean, comfortable and had a stunning 4 poster bed and a comfy sofa to flop on to. A lovely tea tray was provided with high quality 'tea pigs' tea bags and delightful homemade biscuits in a jar.
After exploring Burford (which didn't take long!) we headed back to the room and watched a couple of DVDs (the hotel has a cabinet full you can borrow from). Early evening we headed back out in the search for a drink and something light to eat. Ian recommended several places to try which we were grateful for. I was expecting everything to be closed on a Sunday night but was pleasantly surprised to see most of the pubs open and many offering food. Upon our return I asked Ian if we could have some extra milk cartons so I could try all the teapig flavours and he very kindly gave us a jug of fresh milk instead.
After a comfortable nights sleep we were sadly woken at 7.30am by a group of workmen who had started digging up the pavement right outside the hotel & under our window. Totally out of the hotels control it was the only small thing that spoilt our stay. Breakfast was delicious (the best bacon &sausage!) but again the jcbs and shouting workmen were right outside the dining room window which was a shame.
Will definitely stay again but will ask for a room at the back next time as although it didn't disturb us I was quite shocked at how busy the main road through Burford was and the amount of lorries thundering through during the night.
Ian and his staff are extremely helpful and polite and the same lovely lady checked us out and bless her apologised profusely for the workmen.
Oh and I have to mention the teddy bears.....how cute are they?!! Also liked the complimentary copies of Cotswold Life magazine as well!
