“So relaxed, so friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

My wife and I first visited this hotel by coincidence, juste dropping in on our way, 3 or 4 years ago. We were so well received that there was no question where we would stay when we took a trip showing some friends the Cotswolds this year!

Great location, a good restaurant, friendly staff! And my wife is still talking about that four post bedroom...

Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a four post bedroom - it's worth it!

Our family took a number of rooms as base camp for our son's wedding.

We were naturally not going to let anything spoil our weekend. We certainly agreed with all our party who commented extremely favourably about not only the comfort of the hotel but the warmth and genuineness of the welcome and attentiveness of the staff throughout our stay.

Our room was spacious, well furnished and comfortable.

Good variety of food at breakfast.

The restaurant menu was very interesting and varied. The meals were well cooked and presented. The Gateway seemed very popular as the the restaurant and bar were busy well attended.

The hotel is conveniently sited and the walk to Burford High St short and easy.

We will have no hesitation in staying at the Gateway again or indeed recommending the hotel and are extremely grateful to all at the Gateway for making our stay additionally enjoyable.

Don't pay too much attention to the adverse comment about extra charges as we found the Gateway very accomodating regarding early arrival and willingness to be flexible.

We used this hotel along with our family and friends as a base for our wedding in nearby Aldsworth. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating- from early check-ins on the day itself to thoughtful provision of limited access facilities for our elderly and disabled members.

The bar itself proved perfect for 'night before' drinks- enough space and seating for family and friends to catch up and look ahead to the big day. Such a nice atmosphere that my early night wasn't that early! The food was first class, well portioned and to an overall impressive standard- with prompt service. The card tricks from the barstaff were a nice touch too!

The rooms themselves were excellent- well kept, clean, airy and quiet. Breakfast on both occasions was vey good- never any danger of the favourite items running out.

All in all the Cotswold gateway proved to be the right choice for us- location, service, accommodation and food- it gave us a hassle free stay, letting us concentrate on the wedding. Would definetely stay again, be it in a larger group or just the two of us. Ten out of ten, and recommended!

We booked for 2 nights on our way back from the Lake District. We hadn't planned on taking the dog, but as we were away over the Jubilee weekend the kennels were fully booked. Contacted the hotel and got a response within 2 hours saying they would be happy to welcome our dog Jak. We had a ground floor room (room 4) which was a little small but comfortable. The room was in need of a little TLC and more attention to detail in the cleaning regime. There was black mould around the edge of the bath and the windows in the bathroom as well as several cobwebs on the ceiling in the bedroom. The bed was really comfy. Food was excellent (bar food and breakfast). The young barman and the blond lady serving in the bar on both evenings deserve special mention as they could not do enough for us (and Jak). Overall excellent value for money and we would stay here again.

We arrived nearly three hours earlier than we should have to check in because we needed to get nine people ready for my cousins wedding. When we telephoned in advance the staff had said they would do all they could to get at least one room ready for us to get changed in. We arrived just before the previous occupants checked out so went and had a coffee in the bar area. Within half an hour we were given the keys!! I can't thank the staff enough for this quick turn around - we have three children, 4,5 and 7 and really didnt want to have to get ready in the toilets!! The bed was the comfiest hotel bed i've slept in and the room was fabulous - immaculatly clean and very well presented, even with an extra sofa bed made up!!
We weren't looking forward to breakfast because our children can be a little fussy but there was so much choice they couldn't fail to find something to eat - we were full well into the afternoon!
We would definatly stay here again.

Never stayed overnight but for the past 4 years my aunt has been booking this venue twice a year for a gathering of our family who come from North and South. There are about 15 adults and 7 children and we take over one of the restaurant rooms on a Saturday (this saturday coming is our next meet)
The food and drink IS pricey, but no more than any other 4* hotel in the UK. Kids menu starts from about £7 and adults from about £12.
However there aren't many places that would accommodate our crowd for 5 hours on a saturday afternoon in a room to ourselves without charging us extra. they also allow us to all have separate bills on tabs which we settle before we vacate - so that's about 7 different invoices to sort with different food and drink orders on.
