I am a regular visitor to hotel and restaurant.

Positive points about hotel & restaurant:
- Hotel has friendly staff and always welcome with a smile.
- Rooms are specious and good view of lake and racecourse
- Restaurant staff are friendly and breakfast is nice
- Singapore sling is the must you should try in restaurant

Negative points about hotel and restaurant:
- Restaurant menu is limited to choose from for vegetarians

Room Tip: Superior rooms are nicer to stay than executive rooms.

We booked a night at this hotel on a saturday to celebrate our anniversary. Got a great deal from their own website rather than a separate hotel booking website, £79 for B&B. Was a bargain! From the outside the hotel is gorgeous, lovely views of Nottingham Racecourse and a lovely water feature out the front. The staff checked us in quickly with no problems and offered help with luggage. We found our room and we were quite taken aback at how large the room was. This created a problem, it was cold. The heating wasn't on and all radiators were on full. I was hoping to have a room with a view but as tall as the windows were, the bottom halves were frosted so we couldn't see out at all. The bathroom was big also, but lovely and nicely decorated. The decor in the bedroom was dated, but i think that is the theme of the hotel. We had gone out for the evening but when we got back, there was a function on in the marquee outside. It did specify on the hotel website that there is usually a party/wedding going on at the weekends. What the staff at check in failed to tell us, was that the marquee was directly outside our window. It was like being right outside a nightclub it was so loud. Struggled to get to sleep until 1am which is when the music stopped. A head's up from the hotel staff would've been nice. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I would recommend this hotel, it's comfortable and good if you can get a cheap deal. Don't think i'd pay the normal room rate of £200-something though.

Room Tip: Check for functions before booking and check which room you're staying in as we stayed in room 1...

Dear Debsywebsywoo

I am so glad you chose Colwick Hall for your anniversary celebration. I am so sorry you weren't made aware of the event as we do try and let guests know when we have a function on, and being a late Christmas party they were in party mode. We have strict sound restrictions and try our very best on this front. Please do visit us again you may like to dine with the Special Valentines Package. We are offering dinner for 2 in the Grand Ballroom with overnight accommodation and a hearty and leisurely breakfast, prices from £120.

Do let me know and I assure you we will make it an excellent experience.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Kind regards
Selva

Stayed here for one night . The room was huge but had a general air of not being finished in places, which was a shame. The main thing letting it down was not TV working . Staff attempted to rectify this but could'nt and had no other room to offer!! On a Monday night found this a bit odd. After a long journey just wanted to relax and watch TV for a while. All they offered was a free glass of wine !

We chose to stay at the Hotel as we were attending a friends wedding and had 300 miles to travel. Although the wedding was excellent and the food very good, the room was completely the opposite in so many ways.Where to begin..There was, as the advert says, a shower and bath, however the shower curtain had a dingy yellow stain at the bottom. The "attractive mirror light" may have been more attractive had it worked. The skylight in the bathroom didn't let much light in due to amount of cobwebs covering it.There was a knob missing on the wardrobe door and although there were two robes in the wardrobe which was a nice touch, one had a black mark down the arm and make up on the collar. The bedside lights were on the verge of collapse and it was only the dust that was keeping them together I think. We had an uncomfortable night due to the stifling heat and could find no way to turn the radiator in the bathroom down (the bedroom one didn't come on at all). There was a fan which was handy under the circumstances but had a noise not unlike an F1 fighter jet. Although the advert suggests the room we stayed in can be for a single or couple, there was only one bottle of water and one sachet of chocolate. On returning to the room a few times during the day, there were the same trays of used pots, crockery and the remainders of someones room service on the landing outside the room until early evening. To be fair, the historical side of the Hall takes a back seat when the basic requirements are not met. Cleanliness is paramount to most travellers I would of thought. Will not be back.

I have to acknowledge some previous reviewers' comments about Colwick Hall being geared up for functions/weddings/parties etc.

Our wedding was held here last weekend, and I cannot fault the staff, the service, the amazing food cooked by Chef Lee. The whole day was perfect. We stayed in Lord Byron. A huge room, perfect for the bridal party to get ready in. Tad on the expensive side for the rooms, but great comfy beds, and a fab bathroom. It's quite warm, but being a listed building aircon was refused. The windows open plenty to let the air in.

I know my husband and I will be regular visitors. It's the perfect wedding venue!
