I booked to stay at this hotel with my girlfriend for 1 night for new year. I managed to get a good deal on laterooms.com on an executive suite in the hotel, and judging by the pictures it looked like a nice clean modern hotel. I went for this one as it was 4* so we were expecting a bit of luxury during our stay. Unfortunately this was not really the case.
Check in was quick, and the staff were really really helpful and very friendly. We then headed for our room on the 10th floor (room 1009 i think it was) - a high floor which was great as it was what we asked for. But then, it went a bit downhill...
The room was just a regular room, there was nothing special about it at all. The word "suite" must just equate to "slightly bigger" - there wasn't much between this room and one at the Premier Travel Inn to be honest. The double bed was 2 singles pushed together, the cups/glasses/spoons etc were not cleaned properly, the carpet loooked filthy, the mirrors in the bathroom had fingermarks on them, the table pushed under the TV/Desk unit was rickety and almost falling apart - even the door stop was broken off and just lying on the floor. Shockingly Average for a £180 a night Executive Suite.
I called front desk from the room who said they'd send someone up. A cleaner arrived and said she's change the bedding. I told her we were not happy and she told us to go down to reception. So we deaded down and told them they must have given us the wrong roomand complained about the other things. She took us to one side and said she would upgrade us for free to one of their "Junior Suites" (even though they were supposed to be fully booked??). Again, i have to say she was friendly and very helpfull, so off we headed to our junior suite - room 916...
This room straight away looked more like the one we had booked in the first place - 2 seperate rooms (1 living area with seating/TV/Desk leading into a corridoor with a large bathroom off-shooting from the corridor and then the corridoor led into the bedroom. The room was really nice to be honest, but again as we started to look around we found again they had let themselves down with the cleanliness.
I've posted some photo's to show/prove my point but basically it was the same kind of thing again - cups and glasses not cleaned properly, the couch was dirty, scuff marks on the units, stains on the curtains. We even opened up the drawer next to the bed to put our money & keys etc in there - in there we found the obligatory bible with a big black sticky blob (god only knows what it was!) stuck to it. By this point we were just finding it funny, so i took a few pics on my mobile to show you guys. There were a lot more things we could have taken pics of (red wine stains down curtains, stains on the ceiling, scuffs in the walls painted over, tea stained cups) but by then we had had enough and just wanted to go out for a drink!
We had a good laugh regardless and enjoyed our new year, and thought that so long as we got our breakfast in bed which we had pre-ordered we would be happy. Come the next we got up around 9:30 so we would be ready for our breakfast arriving at 10. By 10:15 we thought we'd better call and make sure it was coming and were told it would be 20 minutes. We finally got it just after 11am - it was a full english exactly as we ordered, however, it was cold! In our eyes it was their last chance to get something right, but no. Shame.
This hotel has real promise but a lot of little mistakes just add up to make the whole experience really unenjoyable. We felt as though we had to keep asking for things that should have been done in the first place, we also felt that they had tried to fob us off with a cheap room disguised as a "suite" and that we were being over charged for ultimately average rooms and below par cleanliness.
I really wouldnt reccommend this place for couples wanting a bit of 4* luxury as you really wont get it. Stag/Hen do's or people who dont really care about having a clean room - fill your boots!
