Booked an executive room. Room was large, fairly clean, smelled fresh, but the furniture was tatty, the sofa bed looked like one from a shared student house, with mismatching seat cushion. carpet had red wine stains. paintwork was marked, and room looked like it needed re-decorating.One set of net curtains was missing, so you had to close the wodden shutter to get dressed etc. nice clothes hanging area, with good well lit full length mirror. empty mini fridge, good for chilling beer. mini kettle and brewing up stuff. large stool was comfy, also a chair, and a TV with basic free view channels.
Bed was not a king size, was a bit too soft, but comfortable enough. douvet a bit thin, needed extra blanket. extra pillows were availiable in plastic covers. pillows were not best, but were Ok. decor a bit 80s meets japanees I did like the wooden shutters, and the roll top effect head board. At least the room wasnt chintzy and floral.
bathroom large and well lit. bath was short in length, but deep enough. hand shower, good for rinsing hair whilst in bath. second shower head over bath, good for invigorating shower.
some fixtures were cracked, but it was clean. bring own toiletries, as the ones provided smell like carbolic soap. two mini soaps, and 2 shower gels, smell cheap and nasty.
Staff were helpful, and gave directions to all places we wanted to go to.
lift broke down.
Breakfast was the most disgusting food ever had. we got there at 8.45, and it was stale pastries, cold overcooked bacon, congelaed greasy eggs, all cold. bacon was so dreadful, hubby had to spit his out.
No clean tea cups, and no tea, it had run out!
refused to pay for breakfast.
however, the room was cheaper than either travel lodge or that purple premier inn thing that lenny henry advertises, and was only a 5 min walk from rock city, and the central square.
Would stay again for price (less than sixty quid) . It did the job of somewhere to crash after a gig at rockcity. It isnt the Malmaison, but then it isnt in that price bracket.
I have stayed in the britania in manchester, and the Nottingham one is proberbly worse. If you are after somewhere a bit speacial, this isnt it. If you want a cheap place to get ready in, and crash in, Its fine.
