“We had a great stay here”

Britannia Nottingham

Feb 6, 2008

Our room was lovely and clean. There were two extra beds put in for the children and we still had lots of space.

The staff were so friendly and couldn't have been more helpful.

Breakfast was great and lots of choice.

Our first nights dinner was just OK but we were late arriving. Second nights dinner was great - lots of choice for the children too.

Thank you.

We spent one night here (Sat 19th Jan) as part of a weekend break with National holidays. I was really worried having read previous reviews on this website, however my worries were unfounded.

We checked in smoothly at 2.0pm and were allocated room 413. This faced out over the front of the front of the hotel facing the Irish bar with the main dual carriageway just to the left. The room had obviously been refurbished recently as it l.was ike the one pictured on the website. Unfortunately the quality of the finish was poor and I feel that the rooms will soon start to look shabby, but this one is fine at the moment. The room was too warm and we opened the window which obviously let in the noise. Before we went to bed we closed the wooden shutters and this eradicated the problem.. The bed was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also quite new and toiletries are supplied along with plenty of clean towels.

The bonus for us was the mini fridge. It chilled my cava quite nicely!

We had dinner and breakfast as part of our package and both meals were perfectly fine. My choice for dinner was soup, chicken breast in tarragon sauce with vegetables and fresh fruit salad. My husband had salad, steak and kidney pudding with veg and gateaux. Other choices were salmon, beef and there were two vegetarian options. Breakfast was also good with plenty of choice including cereals. fresh fruit, yogurt, full English, toast, tea and coffee. Although it's not 'hote cuisine' all the food was perfectly acceptable and everyone we spoke to seemed to have enjoyed their meals.

I needed to get some writing paper from reception and it was given to me without any problem. This was my only contact with them other than check in/check out but they were friendly and efficient.

For a budget hotel in the city centre I found this a very good all round hotel. I wouldn't want to spend more than two or three days here but for a short break it fit the bill perfectly.

“worst hotel ever”

Britannia Nottingham

Jan 20, 2008

i Stayed at this hotel with my partner and child and it was a disaster as the room was nothing like the picture.
the room was too hot with no air cond working, the carpet was dirty and smelly and the bedsheets and towels were dirty,
As to sleep, the bed was unfortortable and the tv had no satellite working.
the staff at reception was roud and unhelpful and the breakfast was terrible too so we decide to leave the next day!
please avoid this hotel and don't be scared to pay a little bit extra for some confort!!!
be aware that there is no parking and we had to pay £15 for overnight stay in the carpark over the road.....

Booked here for three nights as it was actually cheaper than Travel Inn/Travelodge and was centrally postioned.

However the cheap rate should've been a clue. First night the heating didn't work, it's cold in Nottingham this time of year, neither did the heated towel rail; towels were dirty and generally felt 'dowdy'. Most of the channels on the TV didn't work and although wi-fi was free the signal was patchy at best.

I stayed here when it was a Holiday Inn and it was much, much better then.

Also, be aware that although you get a discounted rate in the adjacent NCP it is still expensive to park.

A friend and I booked this place for a night out in Nottingham. As a place to crash, it is fine and alcohol assisted sleep is possible. The real issue though is cleanliness. The bathroom "lino" was coming up, carpets filthy, room musty and pokey. I was waiting for Rigsby to show up... The hotel enjoys wonderful views of the NCP car park next door and is actually joined at the hip to this concrete eyesore. Still, never mind. Please take my advice, find somewhere else.
