“Check in was a bit rushed but great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Was checked in which felt a bit rushed.
Room allocated on the first floor, I had previously read reviews saying to have a higher floor room but thought I would give it a try. I was allocated a privilege room and oh my what a treat.
Large bed, nespresso machine, mini bar with complimentary free soft drinks, upgraded toiletries, bathrobe. Lovely.
Ate in the bar and the barman was excellent, could not do enough for you. The food was excellent as well as the service.
I didnt use the gym but will on my next visit.
Good work.

I stayed in this hotel for 1 night, I booked the standard room. However, room is small. But the bed is comfortable and the room with the bathroom were very clean. The hotel has a historical story behind its decoration. The location is great in the city centre. The staff were very friendly and helpful. In the hotel there is a small gym as well.
The only one drawback, is the noise specially at night, that I didn't sleep probably, which comes from the bars outside the hotel.

Room Tip: Choose high floors and not a city centre view to avoid the noise from street at night.

I thoroughly recommend this hotel. I got it for half price as I was staying midweek. If I ever come back to Nottingham I wouldn't hesitate to book this place. I can see that it might be noisy in term time when students are around. If you get in early there are enough quiet rooms.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

I stayed only one night in this hotel, very conveniently situated for meetings on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 June. Since I had been travelling and had a large case I appreciated being able to leave these even though I arrived at 8:30, long before check-in time. The room was comfortable, the bed excellent. I was anxious seeing the ear plugs on the bedside table (though I always carry my own!) but the hotel was very quiet, perhaps because I had a room looking onto the central light well/courtyard.

I didn't see any original features apart from the staircase, however, the finish to the rooms was good, no shoddy workmanship and everything was impeccably clean. The internet connection was very slow and on two of the sites I tried to access the screen appeared text style with images all stacked up at the bottom - never had that problem before. A pity you can never pick up BT Openzone in hotels!

Didn't try the breakfast - austerity budget - but it smelt good!

Enjoyed doing some architectural walks round the city in the evenings, Pevsner in hand. I would like to go back and if I did would certainly stay at the Mercure.

I enjoyed my stay here. City centre location with lots of shopping, bar's and eating places to go. The hotel was clean, modern and easy to locate. The rooms are nice and comfy with everything you expect in an upmarket hotel. The staff are pleasent and very helpful. I will stay there again on my next visit to Nottingham and have breakfast next time it smelt delicious.
