Went today for lunch with some friends. This is the third time I've been to this café. I have to say that the second time I went, my partner and I walked out due to very cramped tables, but more importantly because the whole place was simply very dirty and in need of a serious clean.
I returned today in the deluded hope that I may have previously caught them on an off day---- but I was sadly wrong!
On entering the premises the windows and door were filthy. This could so easily be rectified by a quick wipe down on a daily basis. On the uncleared tables outside pidgeons were busy eating food left by previous diners.
We had to sit at the rear of the premises, situated near the steps to the toilets and the coffee machine. Our table must have been the worse in the overcrowded place!
Glancing over towards the coffee prep area I noticed that all the cupboards and chiller areas were stained-- really dirty and obviously hadn't been cleaned in a long while. Next to the chiller was a dirty plastic bin with no top. Waiting staff threw empty bottles into this bin , causing unnecessary noise. The walls near our table were covered in splash marks and other very unattractive unidentified marks!
The toilets were dirty with a baby changing table being situated in the open corridor leading into the café. Placed next to the dirty baby changing mat were children's booster seats. To say these were dirty and scutty would be an understatement.
My two friends had jacket potatoes which were very over cooked with yellow flesh and hard skins.
I had a prawn sandwich was ok, but for some reason arrived about 5 minutes after the other meals.
I'm aware that this place has won some awards. I honesty don't know how. The food was poor to average, but the cleanliness was truly grim. It really needs to close down and have a good industrial clean. How anyone could eat regularly in this dirty café is totally beyond me!
