“Bar staff need carreer change!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

I went here on 21st August. The beer selection is absolutely amazing. It was about 9 at night and what has to be the most surly barman in the world informed me there were no chips as idiot was my fault. I said I would still have a burger and he informed me there would still be no chips. As another reviewed has said, if you ask this guy about the beers he makes it quite clear he does not see himself there to help.

The burger it has to be said was excellent as well.

This pub has the potential to be an absolute gem if it sorts out the bar staff. If they really don't want to be there give them another option. I overheard a number of other customers commenting on the attitude and just leaving. So, mr/mrs owner if you want to make more money make your customers feel welcome not a burden. The bar was empty just after ten.

“good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

9th Aug went for a brithday drink. This was my fouth time at the Keans but first time to sample the food and wasnt disapointed. Great home cooked food I had the gammon pie, was fab and range of beer to try. My only negative was the male barstaff I found him very arrogate and unhelpful when asking about the diffrent beers on offer and this is the second time I have had a bad expeicence at the Keans when this barman was working. But dont let this put you off going there. I will be going again. Trace x Cheryl

“Great pie and pint”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

Friendly and knowledgeable staff in a comfortable central pub. Very fine ales in excellent condition. Good variety of homemade pies to accompany. A bit on the quiet side which seems a shame for such a fine alehouse. Have been a few times when visiting Nottingham and would certainly recommend to others in the area.

“Great food and quality ales”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Great Castle Rock pub, serving the usual high quality ales and cracking food. Away from the main drag, and hence a bit of a hidden gem. Well worth a visit.

“Cosy pub, good beer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

This pub was a great find - it's a bit off the beaten track so if you don't know it's there you are unlikely to stumble upon it. Good selection of local Castle Rock beers and homemade pork pies in a variety of interesting flavours.

Great atmosphere, good for a quiet drink alone with a book or a chat with friends. I believe I ate there a few years ago now and seem to remember the food being good - the menu is tempting anyway!
