Went to Danielles for a meal after the Fireworks on The Sele. It's some years since we were last in Hexham but it's as good as ever.
Thankfully we'd booked for 8:30 but because of the heavy downpour arrived 20 minutes early- our table was set and waiting, just as well as it was completely full by 8:30.
Friendly, happy waitresses and owner[?] made us very welcome. House red was smooth and delicious and fresh bread to nibble on. Good to get a jug of iced water too.
The starters were tasty and well presented. The melon, smoked salmon and prawns were delicious- the cheeses souffle with a light creamy sauce is as good as Cafe Lowery's so that tells you everything you need to know!
Main courses are huge, so make sure you go very hungry to do it justice!! A whole chicken fillet with bacon, black pudding and whisky sauce. The salmon fillet with prawn and tarragon sauce was delicious too [I had to help!] Side dishes of lovely crisp but fluffy roast potatoes and the vegetables were cooked perfectly- carrots and broccoli with a bite still which was lovely.
Couldn't cope with a pudding but they looked really good.... next time! Coffee was a perfect end, with refills. We wondered if it would be OK to share a starter and pudding next time... their smiles told us it was OK!
The place is warm , friendly and immaculately clean, including the toilets which have a stack of fresh clean hand towels for each person which was a thoughtful touch.
Prices compare well with places like Cafe Lowery and Irvins, we were so relaxed we stayed until well after 10, feeling full but happy and keen to come back soon. The set evening menu through the week looked inviting so will try that next time.
