We stopped overnight at the Crag House in the course of an 8-day walk of Hadrian's Wall Path in June 2012. The Inn is a pleasant 1/2 mile walk from the Path down a narrow and little used country lane. The property is impressive. We were blown away by the beautiful landscaping from the entrance to the house, a driveway about 200 yards long. The house is a beautiful stone farmhouse. The farm is a working alpaca farm where Mike and Melanie breed and raise show-quality alpacas and host a little pet dog (inside) and (several?) cats and more well-bahaved dogs (outside). The wool they collect from the alpacas is also entered into shows. During our stay Mike took us out to the alpaca's pasture to meet the residents there. Their little doggie liked me so much he sat on my foot when I was seated downstairs. Our room was immaculate and comfortable. The entire house is comfortable. But perhaps the most memorable was Melanie's delicious dinner, gourmet quality, of Chicken Tagine? (chicken in a sauce with apricots, sliced onion?, and slivered almonds. The full English breakfast was equally delicious. Both of our hosts were friendly and conversive. This would be our number one choice to stay over were we in the area again.
