We stopped overnight at the Crag House in the course of an 8-day walk of Hadrian's Wall Path in June 2012. The Inn is a pleasant 1/2 mile walk from the Path down a narrow and little used country lane. The property is impressive. We were blown away by the beautiful landscaping from the entrance to the house, a driveway about 200 yards long. The house is a beautiful stone farmhouse. The farm is a working alpaca farm where Mike and Melanie breed and raise show-quality alpacas and host a little pet dog (inside) and (several?) cats and more well-bahaved dogs (outside). The wool they collect from the alpacas is also entered into shows. During our stay Mike took us out to the alpaca's pasture to meet the residents there. Their little doggie liked me so much he sat on my foot when I was seated downstairs. Our room was immaculate and comfortable. The entire house is comfortable. But perhaps the most memorable was Melanie's delicious dinner, gourmet quality, of Chicken Tagine? (chicken in a sauce with apricots, sliced onion?, and slivered almonds. The full English breakfast was equally delicious. Both of our hosts were friendly and conversive. This would be our number one choice to stay over were we in the area again.

Room Tip: I think they have only two rooms. We had the room to the left upstairs and it was great.

Staying at Crag House is one of the best things that ever happened to my husband and I. We have stayed several times now and plan many return trips. It is very peaceful, beautiful, restful and Mike and Melanie are fabulous. We are spoiled now by this wonderful place and would find it very hard to settle for anything else. Meals that are offered are super, healthy and served with great ease and care. You are made to feel totally relaxed and it is like no other place on earth for us!
Would recommend this time and time again to those that want just that little bit of extra luxury.

Crag House is superb if you are want a luxury bed and breakfast experience. The charming house is situated on the top of the hill so you get wonderful views of the countryside from every window. The hosts are very friendly and helpful and the dinner and breakfast was delicious. The rooms are pristine and very comfortable and we learnt a bit about alpacas. We were completing the Hadrian's Wall walk and were delighted to wallow in this luxury. Great base for touring the area and whilst we did not require it, Mike may have mentioned he was happy to give lifts. The 5 star trip advisor reviews are thorougly deserved and Crag House has also won Gold Star awards.

Thank you for your great review - very much appreciated. We are always so impressed with people like yourselves who walk the length of Hadrian's Wall - you deserve a bit of luxury! Perhaps you might come again and stay longer another time.

Spent a lovely weekend at Crag House back in February and have already recommended it to our friends and family. The room was lovely - beautifully furnished and very comfortable and we had the best nights sleep in ages! The views from the room's windows are spectacular and the location is lovely and peaceful. The owners Melanie and Mike were so welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your weekend with us at Crag House. We do our utmost to ensure that all of our guests have a very comfortable and relaxing stay here. There is no doubt that our alpaca bedding contributes to a good night's sleep. We are now selling our own duvets, pillows and mattress toppers - they make great presents!

Crag House is a Very Special Place to stay and the owners, Melanie and Mike are Very Special People. You are welcomed as a friend and provided with lovely home-made cake and tea. There is just one guest room and you also have your own lounge/dining room - all beautifully furnished and immaculately clean - so you feel that you have your own 'home' during your stay.

The bedroom is a good spacious room with lovely views to both sides, and the comfortable king-size bed has a wonderful alpaca duvet .The en-suite is a good size too with modern tiling and power shower. Everything you could wish for is provided - from dressing gowns, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities (with home-made biscuits too), TV, DVDs to even a torch and shoe-cleaning wipes.

We stayed for 2 nights and on both occasions Melanie made us 3 course evening meals (book in advance) which were superb. So after a day of walking and sightseeing we were fully relaxed in front of a log-burning stove, background music and served with a top-notch meal - what more could you want?

Breakfasts were also first class with excellent choice.

The icing on the cake though is the warmth and friendliness of Melanie and Mike as they really make you welcome in their beautiful home. Also, if you get the chance, have a stroll over to see the alpacas as they are charming animals.

We will certainly be visiting here again as it is such a wonderful, welcoming, relaxing place to stay that is also very convenient for all the sights and walking in the area.

We stayed here whilst walking Hadrian's wall. It was such a perfect place to stay we didn't want to start walking the next day! On arrival we were welcomed with tea/coffee and lovely cake. The room was lovely - it had everything you could possibly want (including dressing gowns - always lovely!). The room was also lovely and warm. As mentioned in the previous review you are provided with your own lounge - there is a music system and lots of books. We opted to have our evening meal at the house - Melanie served a delicious two course meal. Breakfast was wonderfull - lovely deer sausages. All in all a wonderfull place to stay - we will definately return.

Set on an Alpaca farm in the countryside, this gem of a B&B is a little bit of luxury. Our welcome by the owners Melenie and Mike couldn't have been warmer a lovely couple. We were immediately offered the choice of tea or coffee, which when served was accompanied by a slice of scrummy cake. They only do 1 room so you have all the attention. You get use of your own lounge which doubles up as your dining room for breakfast. Your bedroom is airy and comfortable with a very adequate en suite. The whole place was impeccable. Breakfast was well presented and plentiful.
