“Thanks for a nice wedding lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

A couple of years ago my wife and I married in her home country of Vietnam. We decided that we'd renew our vows in the UK for the members of the family who couldn't make it the first time around. Having visited the registry office we booked a family lunch at the Boatside.

They were fantastically accommodating, service was great and the food was wonderful

We had a number of small kids in our party and they were great with them. They made sure we were all served quickly and, in general, they just made sure everything went smoothly and we had a very warm welcome. Huge thanks to them

Just returned from staying 3 nights here. Great location for seeing Hadrian's Wall. We went to Chesters which was excellent. Weather was very kind to us. Cold but blue skies (November)
Also went to a place Allen Banks which was beautiful.
The Inn was very comfortable and very clean. Room was large (we stayed in Homer).
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast's excellent and set us up for the day. We ate every night there and didn't have a bad meal. Portions were very large and food quality was excellent.
Newcastle isn't far away, Metro Centre 30 minutes drive away. Hexham is about 3 miles away and is a pleasant market town. If you don't want to drive there a bus will take you there picking up right outside the pub.
Thanks to all for making our stay a good one and we will return.

Went here with my partner for Sunday lunch before a walk on Hadrian's Wall. Easily one of the best roast lunches I've had in a long time, with generous, tasty portions. We were quite late (2.30) and they still managed to accommodate us when other pubs might have stopped serving. They actively encourage walkers, which is good for the muddy-boots brigade. Baby friendly too, with a range of babyfood and milk (at the bar!). All in all we were made to feel very welcome. Will definitely go again.

I was only staying for a weeding, therefore did not spent much time in my room. However, I felt that the Inn offered a very homely service. Breakfast was very good and that staff were very friendly. I highly enjoyed my stay.

Room Tip: There are only a few rooms, and all of them are beautiful.

Stayed at The Boathouse with some pals whilst fishing on The North Tyne at Chesters which is five minutes away. Super room; all provided.
Lovely supper of savoury mince with all trimmings and there was the option of liver and onions and braised steak. Manfood.
Staff were very helpful and a good atmosphere througthout.
A great base

Room Tip: We stayed in "Homer" which was an excellent room

The food is very good . Only problem was we were put in the bar for our Sunday meal. In the past we have always been in the restaurant part of pub We were told by a waitress when we asked for drinks she said you have to get your own drinks at the bar which you are served at your table in restaurant also in the bar is lots of childrens toys so children running around and lots of noise .So if you book always ask for the Restaurant not the bar.

Room Tip: do not book a table in the bar

We booked the 3 rooms at the back of the hotel. The rooms are large, clean and very comfortable. We had pre dinner drinks in the garden, where the landlord joined us. Both him and his wife were perfect hosts and made is very welcome. We then had dinner which was excellent traditional English food. Excellent service, huge meals and value for money. At breakfast we were served by the owners son who like his father was very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was plentiful with all the traditional offerings eg black pudding, bacon, eggs , mushrooms, tomato etc. The location is a bit remote ( no shops in walking distance) but it was just what we wanted.

Room Tip: All 3 rooms at the back of the hotel were the same
