Me and 3 friends were in Friday 15 November for a meal. We had booked for 8.00 pm as we sat down we were asked what we would like to drink. Two asked for Rose and was told there was none left!!!. I asked for a bottle of White wine and when it came it was warm. The waitress took it back and explained they were all the same. So two of us went to the local off-licence and bought our wine. Initially we were told it would be £9.00 corkage charge, they then brought it down to £5.00. I can not believe on a Friday night that they had ran out of wine as they knew Hexham was busy with Children in Need. The food was ok will return in the New Year to see if any improvements have been made to the menu.

stayed in this hotel some years ago and it was tired; i gather it was shut for 12 months. Now it's reopened and the refurbishment is fantastic; the bedrooms are superbly appointed, and the room rates are very reasonable. I received a very friendly welcome and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The bar and restaurant are warm and welcoming; I didn’t eat as I had a function to attend, but the food I witnessed looked excellent. I will definitely stay when next in Hexham, cant praise the new team enough; well done and good luck for the future.

The refurb is great. The place looks great. The Aussie bar lady was great. Sadly her young, male, English colleague was not. He seemed to have as much familiarity with the bar as we had, and we'd never been in before.

My (much kinder than me) partner pointed out that he must just have started since the place had only just reopened, but surely that goes for the fab Aussie lady too?

I've made my share of hiring mistakes in the past so will stop there...with a final practical observation that there's no use having a wireless credit card machine if you can't get a wireless signal in the bar. In summary...great refurb...but some operational matters need careful consideration, because our reason for not going back for a meal after our initial drink was that, frankly, it all looked like too much hard work!

Having been in once for a drink, I was really impressed with the refurbishment and think it is stylish, modern and comfortable. We decided to return to try out the food. We tried to phone and book a table, however the number on the web site is incorrect, anyway we just arrivd on spec. Got last free table at 7.30 which was small for four of us. You have to order food at the bar, for a hotel which is aiming high I think they have got this wrong! There was 5 bar staff waiting on, surely one of them could have been dedicated to taking food orders? Consequently as I was ordering for 4 of us I was back and forward to the bar whilst the young lady rested against her till waiting! The tables don't have numbers on so you have to try to explain where you are sitting. The food was served promptly and was good, however I was disapointed about the ordering system, its a bit of a hassle, in my opinion it puts it in line with Cheaper pub chains! Think they need to re-think the ordering process, for a small adjustment it would make it so much more of an enjoyable and relaxing experience.

Would I go again, yes, but hopefully in the future they will have got over their teething troubles as the food was really nice and the pub had a nice atmosphere.

Visited early on Saturday evening with 2 colleagues for an 'after work drink'. Despite the fact that it was quiet with more staff than customers, we were ignored by the young staff working behind the bar. After waiting 10minutes to be served we decided to go elsewhere. Lovely comfortable place but the new owners need to put some staff training in place!!

On first impressions the room was really clean lovely and modern. The room had a beautiful free standing bath BUT... there was a few problems.
Firstly the main problem... Noise! The bar was really loud and the room was directly above the bar. I've stayed in many hotels, this is by far the noisiest hotel ever. Even after the punters went home you could hear the staff talking and people shouting outside. There was no sound proofing at all. Couldn't even relax. You could never bring a family here or go here for a relaxing break away unless they do something about the noise.

Secondly there was a bright green light in the room that lit it up so the room was glowing during the night.
There was no mirror in the room only the bathroom, we had to ask for a hair dryer.
The bed was not a double bed it was two singles pushed together and had plastic sheeting underneath and felt horrible to lie on.
Breakfast was nice, staff were friendly but overall just really dissapointed and feel like it was overpriced for a horrible nights sleep!!! Would not recommend.

Visited first time since the refurb and they have made a good job of things-very horse and hound.Pricey drinks with not a great selection.Have not tried the food but not sure I want to pay £6.50 for a panini.Certainly an improvement on the old County though.
