“Lovely Tearoom”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We visited this lovely tearoom whilst camping in the nearby village of Bellingham. What a hidden gem and definitely worth a visit. The cream scone was delicious, the homemade lemonade was cold and refreshing and the coffee was excellent. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. My daughter adored Dexter the westie. We will definitely be returning soon.

My grandparents stayed here when they were visiting, and they said it was lovely! I myself have not stayed but from what I have gathered, it was a nice stay. I have been to the cafe though and it is lovely. The garden is also lovely. The cakes a delicious and the scones are also! Will be returning!

Room Tip: Always get a cake in the cafe! To die for!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

Have passed the end of the road leading to Simonburn on many occasions and noticed the Tea Room sign, but always in too much of a rush to get somewhere to investigate further. Well yesterday was different!!

Had taken my 8 yr old niece to the Falconry Days owl experience and although we’d had some hearty soup, we just fancied something a little naughty but nice and did we find it!!

We drove for about 3 minutes to a very picturesque village square and there in the far corner was this Village Shop/B&B/Tea Room. We were greeted by a lovely Westie, who we later heard was called Dexter. We wondered inside and found the charming room with delightfully laid tables. Each had a lovely embroidered cloth and was laid with cottagey type china.

Our hostess was delightful, cheerful and most helpful and we order hot chocolate for my niece tea for me and 2 pieces of chocolate cake, which were delicious and very clean plates followed! I later gathered, from some other regular visitors, that her scones are to die for, so much so that she’s offering classes to make them!

There are a number of offers available, apart from the B&B. You can book for Sunday lunch, or a special Afternoon Tea, all at extremely favourable prices.

We had a wonder round the church, which is charming and had the remnants of their Easter Festival.

My niece and I decided we would keep this a secret and bring all the family for Sunday lunch sometime soon, and maybe even a Mum’s and Daughters afternoon out for tea!!

We really enjoyed our stay here, it took a while to get there, but it was worth it in the end. So peaceful and quiet, we were welcomed by Ann, who runs the B&B and she does the tea rooms and the shop, also the little Western Terrier, a homely place.
The rooms were beautiful, coinciding with the old building itself. The only fault i would say is that its a shared toilet, but when we were there we were the only residents. I would have liked to have stayed there a bit longer, 1 night just wasn,t enough. Ingrid & Paul

We stayed here for 1 night on a cycle trip from bowness on solway to south shields doing the coast to coast. Very airy large family room, comfy beds and fantastic breakfast. Wish we would have had more time to stay and experience the tea rooms too! Fantastic garden full of wildlife, even saw the local woodpecker and Ann feeding the doves. We can see why she has won wildlife awards and rural entreppeneur awards. All in all a fantastic stay and we hope to go back again.

Room Tip: Family room was fine for 2 adults and 2 teenage boys.

Unfortunately this B&B did not meet our expectations. The room was large, but it was right above the kitchen and VERY noisy. We heard every conversation below us, and after the tea room guests left we could hear the noisy fridge all night long! Add to that the noise from the room next door - we had a terrible night's sleep. Also, the bathroom was shared, which wasn't mentioned on the website; considering the price, shared facilities were not acceptable. The service at breakfast was disinterested to say the least. Overpriced and not recommended!

Ann was fantastic. The property is beautiful. Simonburn is perfect for some rest and relaxation. Lovely countryside. Short drive to Hexham. Dexter is adorable.

Room Tip: The larger room overlooking the back garden is delightful.
