“Had a great weekend ....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

............in this hotel. The room was very comfortable and really clean as was the rest of the hotel. During our two day stay there were three weddings all of which kept the staff extremely busy but not too busy to make the rest of us feel welcome. All the staff are really helpful, friendly and efficient. Breakfast was superb with a good selection of fresh fruit, cold meats and cheeses and all the usual hot food that hotels serve - the breakfast chef was particularly attentive and happy to prepare perfect boiled eggs when we requested them. This is the first hotel we've stayed in for a while that has free car parking so that's a bonus too. We're sure to visit again

Room Tip: If you want to sleep with the windows open ask for a room facing the 'garden' space, you don...

Externally, the buildings look very dated and while things are better on the inside, the rooms tend to be rather drab and dark. The rooms generally only have one double bed in them although you can ask for two singles.

The spa and pool areas are on the small side.

There is wifi in the bar areas but rooms only have wired internet service.

Friendly staff who were keen to help.

Booked five rooms for a family get together and we were a bit concerned as the previous visit showed that the hotel had deteriorated from the very high standard when it was a Swallow hotel.
However concerns were ill founded the reception was excellent, the rooms clean and sizeable, and the overall serrvice was first class. Breakfast was exceelent.
Very good value for money and we will undoubtedly visit again.

We booked a 'Deluxe' double room for one night. It was clean and comfortable but nothing special. We arrived Saturday lunchtime, in a rush to go to a wedding at Castle Ashby and asked if they could book a taxi for us. It was less than eight miles away but the Albanian taxi driver charged us over £16 for the journey! We returned from the wedding in the early hours of Sunday and the lights in the bathroom and by the beds weren't working. Also, couldn't work out how to turn down/off noisy aircon unit. We called reception for help but no answer so just had to lump it. Found out in the morning that we had to enter room key into slot on wall to operate lights and there was a switch near it to disconnect aircon. Felt miffed that nobody had briefed us or had been available when we called. They also tried to charge us 80p for the LOCAL call to the taxi firm, but eventually waived this when we whinged about the various problems. On the plus side the breakfast was good and excellent value for £7.50 a head. And the wedding card we accidentally dropped getting into the taxi had been found and kept behind reception for us.

We stayed for one night at the end of May, and will definitely stay again next time we need a stopover in the Northampton area. Although far from perfect, overall it met expectations for a 4-star business-focused (although we weren’t on business) hotel.

First, the disappointing side. Our welcome was way off the mark – we had requested early check-in, although this wasn’t guaranteed. When we arrived at 1pm (check-in is at 2pm) we were simply told that we would have to wait until 2pm – no apology, and actually a rather brash suggestion to try the Hilton! Not sure Marriott staff should be suggesting guests use another chain…!

When we came back a few hours later, we were checked straight into our room and things started to brighten up. The rooms are in very good condition – I understand the hotel was renovated in 2008 – and were clean, comfortable and equipped with everything you would expect from a Marriott. Bathrooms (we were in a deluxe room) were a decent size with a shower over the bath. The bed was very comfortable, and a variety of pillow options were available. The only downside in the room was the air conditioning – while on the plus side there was a/c, the bad news is that, when it was on, it sounded like a 747 taking off! Not ideal in the middle of the night when it kicked in!

Breakfast – included in our room rate – was good, although had clearly been raided by a wedding party that were staying the same night as us. It was frustrating to have to point out the orange juice, semi-skimmed milk, full-fat milk and bread had all run out. Rectified pretty quickly, but a shame that none of the servers noticed. Perhaps I’m being picky.

Overall, a decent stay. It’s not an award-winning hotel, but then it’s not trying to be – it’s trying to provide good quality, short-term, business-focused accommodation and does a good job. I agree with some of the other posts, in that it seems slightly more expensive than you would expect (maybe £10/night too much?).

At £159. for a bed with breakfast I was pretty shocked at the price when I made the booking. Location was important so i gritted my teeth...

I have to agree with most who commented unfavourably about the hotel. At £159 you would expect WIFI to be gratis.

I stayed last night, 23 May 2012, at the temp in the room was very hot, and without no A/C my sleep was very uncomfortable.

The housekeeping was not up to par

If your looking for a hotel, then try Hilton, better value around
