A great stay here. Fantastic food, great service and lovely ambience. The place is so relaxing and you really feel like you are being spoiled - from the homemade pastries we recieved on arrival to the friendliness of the staff . The early check in means you can enjoy the dvd library and linger in the bath prior to dinner in the restaurant. We shall certainly be returning again soon.

A nice pub to stay in winter. Added extras like sherry and canapes very welcome. Narrow entrance to car park. Book for evening meal as seems very popular!Central location for Wensleydale and good choice for a stay somewhere less basic than the many B and Bs and pubs locally .

Room Tip: Special offers in winter months

Booked as a week end anniversary treat - exceeded our expectations. Here is true passion about customer service; the staff take pride in delivering! The food really is superb; and the presentation par excellence. As well as being allowed to take well behaved dogs in some rooms overnight; you can also ask that they join you in the bar area during your meals. I have asked the owner to consider some signage both outside and inside; as its rather confusing on your first visit and you can end upstairs trying to find reception. That said; clearly the "team" are well led and highly motivated. Just need an excuse to return as soon as possible!
NB the bedrooms are rather well heated and insulated - dont be afraid of turning the heating down on your arrival.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms are more than adequate - and allow well behaved dogs; dont forget to pack your walk...

Booked one of the mad march deals and was so excited to stay in the chocolate heaven room! Arrived and walked into a cool lounge area with fish tank table! Greeted by a lovely blonde girl she took us straight to our room where they had placed a ballon and card with a little stuffed sheep toy for my fiances birthday cute touch! :-) bathroom was AMAZING! Large bath big enough for 2! Gorgeous shower and 2 sinks perfect for us! Room lovely thick curtains soft towels and sheets and chocolate everywhere! Yum! Only negative is if your in the new annex then its to be hoped your a heavy sleeper as the beautiful oak doors are loud when opened and closed and the delightful couple upstairs were clearly deaf and having a dance party with lead shoes on as could hear every word and every step they made! Apart from that was fab! Good jobs guys!

We arrived on a Travelzoo deal on the 5th March for a one night stay including dinner and breakfast.
We were greeted by friendly staff and taken to our room "The Black Sheep Room" one of 13 different themed rooms - Its a pub style entrance and the rooms downstairs are cosy and furnished in nice old style seating with comfy sofas and log burner.
Rooms certainly live up to its AA 5 star rating and bathroom has lovely roll top bath.
Canapes were served in our room and dinner was served in lovely restaurant - food is excellent - this restaurant is in Michelin guide ? no star though yet? We ate from the residents menu but the A la carte is available to both residents and non residents.
Breakfast is plentiful and my husband would recommend the smoked haddock and poached eggs. I loved the homemade granola and special yogurts.
two tiny negative comments
It may have been more sensitive to discuss our deal and the menu prices when we arrived rather than by the waitress handing out the menus and pointing out we were on the deal so the price was different to other diners present.
2nd point- the bed is really comfortable but was twin beds joined together so the duvet wasn't big enough, maybe better with superking sized one, or two singles duvets - as say in Austrian twin.
travelzoo deals do have a catch! - you are expected to tip for the overall experience! the 10% service charge is also added to your evening meal.
All in all would recommend and look forward to going back to try another room - wish i had been able to look round them all!

Room Tip: check out the website first as each room is described and there are photos of the rooms. Also speak...

Welcome was warm and efficient. Black Sheep room with views of snow capped hills. Anniversary card and balloon on our bed. Canapies brought to our room, we added a large glass of quality wine. Food and service were excellent, warm lobster salad to be recommended as was breakfast.
