“Fabulous stay at Ashbourne House in York”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Having never visited York before, I would strongly recommend staying at Ashbourne House! Location was perfect, either walk in to the city centre along the river, approx. 20 mins or catch the bus across the road which runs every 10 mins. Paul and Julie made us feel very welcome and could not do enough for us. We left our car on the premises and didn't use it during the whole of our stay. Exceptionally well equipped room, everything was so pristine, lovely comfortable bed and room had lots of little touches, in fact we didn't want for anything. Breakfast was first class, (the best I have ever had) and served with a smile. We will definately be returning to Ashbourne House when returning to York.

We had a lovely two nights with Julie and Paul; a very warm welcome from Paul on arrival, and advice from them both on our plans for Scarborough/Whitby.

Room was clean and tidy, husband enjoyed the sweets (!) (one of the nice touches that added to the enjoyment).

Good location to explore the North York Moors; I was able to fulfill a 20-year ambition of visiting Goathland (the location for Heartbeat).

Breakfast was served with a smile, and quickly. There was plenty of choice and it was filling enough to give us energy to walk into the city centre on each of the days we stayed.

Can also recommend the Indian on Fulford Road, bring your own booze!

Beautiful room. Exceptionally clean and well equipped rooms. Very friendly and helpful owners. A choice of breakfast is on offer and the restaurant service is excellent. Would not hesitate to stay again and highly recommend this B&B.

As a frequent traveler of Europe in the summers, we have stayed at many guests houses and bed and breakfast type places. Ashbourne House was one of the best that we have ever been too! The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming. The breakfast is one of the best that we have had in Europe. The entire house was extremely clean and felt very much like home. It is within 20 minutes walking to the city center and very close to a bus stop that will take you into the city if you prefer not to walk. Paul also recommended a restaurant that was within 5 minutes walking and it was delicious! The wifi worked great, the beds were very comfortable and clean. I would highly recommend Ashbourne House to anyone who might be visiting York for a short or long amount of time. I did read some negative reviews about Ashbourne House and I am puzzled as to how those writers even could leave such reviews. Our family had a wonderful experience while at Ashbourne House.

Room Tip: Don't look anywhere else! This is the place for you and your family!!

Friendly and welcoming B&B- stayed 2 nights for a friends wedding just up the road, and the hotel was recommended by bride & groom. Great hosts, clean and in a good location for York. Good food with a choice of English or continental breakfast. Great coffee -very important!- and liked having a choice of food to be submitted the night before. Tried both, both excellent.

Our room was a bit on the small side, as other guests have alluded to. We had just booked the standard room as we didn't plan on spending much time there, but still found it a bit cramped- very glad we left our toddler at home! Didn't mind the sink-in room set up, shower room tiny and dated, but impeccably clean. Guess a wet-room set-up might bring it up a notch if any renovations are around the corner? Black out curtains would have been great too.

Free parking on site, coming and going at all hours no problem. Hosts helped us sort out taxis etc and were very helpful with directions and other queries. Would recommend to anyone heading York-way.

Room Tip: Would think an upgrade is well worth it to get more space, especially if staying more than one night...

We were greeted on our very early arrival with a big smile and welcome. Parking was free and we were soon walking into York down by the river with the directions and map that had been given us.

Room was large, with really comfy bed and lovely clean linen and towels. Breakfast was lovely with lots of choices and great fry up.

We can't recommend Ashbourne House enough, and will definitly be going again!!!
