“Hazelwood in York”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We booked one night here because of it's central location and it's rating on Tripadvisor. It is very handy for theatres for sure. Sharon gave us a lovely welcome and was most helpful during our stay. The allocated room overlooking 'the garden' was not particularly large, quite dark and with a very small en-suite. The shower was not functional on the day unfortunately, despite an apparent refurb over winter. The breakfast was OK but nothing out of the ordinary. Overall a pleasant spot to stay, with limited parking at the back, but I feel the room we had did not justify the price tag of £100 per night. I do not know how this price compares to similar central locations.

Room Tip: Ask for a big room with a bright aspect

Lovely guest house. Booked on the spur of the moment and luckily they had a spare room. The room was very clean and large on the ground floor. The bed was lovely and very comfortable. The staff very lovely and the breakfast wonderful. Very close to town and the Minster so ideally located. The parking a bit squashed but off the main road. Would definitely recommend this Guest House as it is lovely.

Room Tip: I don't know what the other rooms are like but room 2 is lovely.

was here for 2 nights... Very cosy place to stay with a hearty breakfast every morning... a bit far from the train station if you're having heavy luggage but otherwise, it's near to the attractions... Definitely a place to choose to stay when in york...

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of November to visit York.

If that's what you're planning to do then it's a top location. Close enough to the train station to walk to & very close to the Minster. York isn't a particularly big place but from the front door of the Hazelwood you're only about a 15 minute walk to Cliffords Tower which was the furtherst attraction away, but with so many shops to peer in as you walk past it may take longer!

We paid top whack for the 4 poster suite. The bedroom was clean, plenty of storage space & the bed was very comfy. The only let down really was the bathroom which was a bit dated and the shower wasn't as powerful or large as we'd hoped. There was no bath either.

Staff were very friendly and the fried breakfast was superb. Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed for two nights in November. Great location within easy walking distance of all city centre attractions. Staff were really helpful but unobtrusive. Room was lovely (four poster) - plenty of space, very clean, warm and comfy. Nice touch having delicious home-made cake on arrival. Room was really quiet - would definitely stay again. Easy walking distance of minster and rail station, and good tips in hotel brochure on places to eat evening meal nearby. Thoroughly enjoyed our short trip (despite the dreadful weather!) Really good to have key and be left to your own devices - stayed in other places where you have to hand keys in as you leave the building.

Room Tip: Street at front is very quiet cul-de-sac - no traffic noise
