“close to the sights and great breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

We stayed at Crook Lodge for 2 nights. My sister and I stayed in a twin room up at the very top of the house. It was very comfortable. It was a busy weekend with the food festival going on and we were very lucky to find a room, but as we stayed 2 nites Brian took us. It is very close to the Yorkshire museum and the gardens. The breakfast was very good and Brian is very welcoming.

Room Tip: If not needing a twin choose one of the lower level rooms

We stayed 2 nights at Crook lodge and enjoyed our experience. The owner was most accommodating and helped out with dining reservations and changes in plans for touring. It's location near Yorkshire Museum, the gardens, downtown York and the Railway museum made it excellent for exploring on foot.
The rooms were very small, although very nicely decorated in Victorian style. Our room was on the main/ground floor so had easy access, but almost impossible to turn about in. The other missing thing was a lounge area for guest to congregate in...as we were travelling with friends we had need of meeting up to make arrangements....perhaps one room could be given over to this.
Breakfast was very nice and as advertised. Eggs were always done as requested...a nice treat not always found in B and Bs.

Room Tip: Upper level rooms are more roomy!

Lovely old building, about 10 minutes walk from city centre, either through museum gardens or along the riverfront. Nice enough decor, immaculately clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was a bit small, with the smallest en-suite imaginable, but the king-size in there was welcome. Breakfast, as others have mentioned, is delicious and substantial. Also, the off-street parking on their large drive is very handy as parking nearby is either permit-only or pricey.

I stayed here with 4 other Austrian friends for 1 night for sight seeing in York. Owner allowed to to arrive early and leave cars at B and B which was great as only 5 minutes walk into city centre.

Rooms were spotlessly clean with good decor and comfortable beds (mine was small as in the attic but had a lovely bathroom) and was perfect for me.

Breakfast was served in the converted old kitchens of the house which again was lovely with an original victorian range. Good choice of cereals fruit yoghurt etc and well cooked breakfast.

Owner was very friendly and chatty - all in all a lovely stay and would recommend to anyone wanting reasonably priced B and b close to everything.

Room Tip: rooms on ground and 1st floor larger then attic rooms

Crook Lodge is superbly situated for York centre , the minster, Rail way museum etc all are only a few minutes walk away.
The breakfast is very filling and keeps you going well into the day.
The room was very clean and tidy with the electric fan a real advantage as the room got very hot during our visit.
