“Great place for food and drink”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

Great food if you're looking for a meal just out of the city centre. Also a great selection of drinks at the bar. They have a lot of whiskey, which are reasonably priced. Only downside is the french waitress who sometimes struggles with the language.

What a fantastic B&B the ROSE AND CROWN is to stay.We seen this b&b on the internet and booked straight away,so glad I did as was fantastic. Our room was very clean and well equipped. The bathroom was spotless well done to the cleaning staff. We were greeted by the manager called Johnny who let us put our case in as we had arrived early for checkin,so that we could go shopping. When we got back we were greeted by a lovely lass called Kiera, who showed to our room and explained the time of meals. The staff could not do enough for us and were really polite. The breakfast was superb there was plenty of choices from cereals, toast and full English, there was also the choice of tea, coffee and fruit juices.Well done to the chef.We would not hesitate to stay here again and will do in the very near future.Thankyou to all at the Rose and Crown.

Stayed for 2 nights and were immediately welcomed in a warm manner. Food excellent and rooms clean and spacious. Breakfast was outstanding. Only problem would be it is situated on a main road so if you are not used to traffic ask for a room at the rear. We live on a main road at home so it was no problem. Bed really comfortable and the pillows great. Would recommend to anybody. Real ales and over 100 Whiskeys to taste!!

Can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay, we're local so just went for food which was absolutely fabulous. Great choice, all reasonably priced. We were a large party so between us sampled more than half the mains menu and everything was perfect. Beautifully cooked and presented, the pies in particular were excellent. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and the whole place had a great atmosphere. We'll definitely be regulars from now on.

We stayed for 2 nights 23th & 24th May 2014, we were in room 3 at the front, lovely room & en-suite, the rooms at the front are a little bit noisy due to traffic as pub is situated on a busy road and as the building is protected double glazing is not allowed so we didnt get much sleep on the 1st night, but had a good nights sleep on the 2nd, but the owners are trying to find a solution to this, that was the only niggle but wasnt a huge issue. The food well what can I say we enjoyed it so much we didnt eat anywhere else the chips were the best I have ever tasted and I don't like chips, breakfast was really nice also BIG compliments to the chef. Staff are lovely very friendly and couldn't do enough for you especially Kiera. Even if you don't stay here definalty eat here you wont be disapointed. Short walk into York. Look forward to returning, would recomend 10/10

Room Tip: Rooms at the back would be quieter, but owners are looking for a solution building is protected so w...

Went with friends on a friday evening, sat outside most of night in a very nice beer garden. Had fish and chips which were excellent value for money and the fish was so fresh. Staff are very welcoming and pub as a good atmosphere.

We stayed for a couple of nights in room 4 at The Rose & Crown Public House. We found the staff extremely friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay perfect. The room & en suite was kept to a very high standard. Breakfast was excellent including hot & cold food with plenty of tea/coffee available. We ate in at the pub on our last night and was very impressed yet again with the quality and value for money. We slept at the front of the pub, a little road noise but the bed was very comfy and slept sound every night. Ideal for visiting York as only around 5 minute walk into the centre. Would recommend anyone to stay, wouldn't be disappointed. 10/10
