“Loved our stay will return, amazing food and staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014

We stayed for 2 nights 23th & 24th May 2014, we were in room 3 at the front, lovely room & en-suite, the rooms at the front are a little bit noisy due to traffic as pub is situated on a busy road and as the building is protected double glazing is not allowed so we didnt get much sleep on the 1st night, but had a good nights sleep on the 2nd, but the owners are trying to find a solution to this, that was the only niggle but wasnt a huge issue. The food well what can I say we enjoyed it so much we didnt eat anywhere else the chips were the best I have ever tasted and I don't like chips, breakfast was really nice also BIG compliments to the chef. Staff are lovely very friendly and couldn't do enough for you especially Kiera. Even if you don't stay here definalty eat here you wont be disapointed. Short walk into York. Look forward to returning, would recomend 10/10

Room Tip: Rooms at the back would be quieter, but owners are looking for a solution building is protected so w...

Went with friends on a friday evening, sat outside most of night in a very nice beer garden. Had fish and chips which were excellent value for money and the fish was so fresh. Staff are very welcoming and pub as a good atmosphere.

We stayed for a couple of nights in room 4 at The Rose & Crown Public House. We found the staff extremely friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay perfect. The room & en suite was kept to a very high standard. Breakfast was excellent including hot & cold food with plenty of tea/coffee available. We ate in at the pub on our last night and was very impressed yet again with the quality and value for money. We slept at the front of the pub, a little road noise but the bed was very comfy and slept sound every night. Ideal for visiting York as only around 5 minute walk into the centre. Would recommend anyone to stay, wouldn't be disappointed. 10/10

Living very local to The Rose & Crown myself and my partner are regulars. We decided to try this place when it first opened and now we find it difficult to eat anywhere else in York. The food is absolutely amazing and all the food is freshly prepared and home cooked which is a bonus because some places you go the food is just bought in and thrown in the oven. Every time I have been I have had pie. The pies are that amazing that I never want to try anything else. I am not a vegetarian but the vegetarian pie is my favourite. It ha Spinach, feta cheese and tomato's in and it comes with a normal top are sweet potato top. The chips that come with the pies are the best chips ever, they are like door stops. They are that big and the chef stacks them like Jenga and you have a choice of mushy peas or veg with the pie and chips. The price of the food is very reasonable oh and the pudding are amazing too. Compliments to the chef, :-) The place is always very warm and welcoming and what a wonderful, friendly, helpful group of staff they have. The place is very clean and cosy and the toilets are great too. They even have a car park and an outside area too.

Free parking, friendly staff, clean room, comfy bed, bathroom was well maintained, well priced. Was a little apprehensive about being on a main road, above a pub, on an open mic night however we slept soundly. The breakfast was delicious. 10/10 all round :)

On site free parking. Friendly, professional and thoughtful staff.
Went for my wife's birthday and chose the Rose because of the real ale. On the first night my young Son ate all of his home made fish in batter. Never seen him eat so well. Great pies too.
At this stage I'd give it 9/10 but that was before breakfast.
Waited a few minutes but it was piping hot and freshly made. Lovely. Please don't change it. Worth the wait.
Within 50m of the walls and just a short 10 min walk to the Shambles with pubs and restaurants en route.
To top it off we were Ok to leave our car on the car park on the last day to have one last walk into town.
Rating increased to 9.5/10
One small downside was a little road noise that we'd read about before. It's a listed building with good central location and a personal touch.
I'll be returning again, which says it all.
