I stayed here for a few nights in February whilst working in York. I was in the single room which was a decent size and very reasonable price. Lovely personable owners really make you feel welcome, and the custom breakfast was great. Would definitely recommend and it's close to the town centre and very close to the Minster.

The Gillygate Guest House is a perfect location for exploring York. My room was well appointed, spacious and spotlessly clean and extremely cosy (very importantly during a cold spell in Yorkshire!). The breakfast was delicious and cooked to order. What makes the Gillygate a stand out place to stay is the welcome you receive from Joyce and Mark. Their hospitality is second to none. By the time I left, it felt like I was leaving friends. I would definitely recommend the Gillygate and look forward to returning there myself.

The hosts at Gillygate couldn't do more to accommodate your needs, nothing is to much trouble. Our room (5) was very clean and warm (a bit to warm during the night) and the bed was extremely comfy! Brilliantly placed for exploring York and only a minutes walk from the Minster. Would stay here again next time we're in York.

We stayed at this guest house this weekend in preparation for my graduation. It is well located on the edge of the city, making it easy to access but a few minutes walk away from the city centre nightlife. Our rooms were spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, and very comfortable, and we slept extremely well. Mark and Joyce are welcoming and friendly and are doing a great job at running a lovely, cosy guest house. A much earlier review here talks about someone finding they were cold - well let me reassure you there is no danger of that now! It was snowing during our stay and the guest house was lovely and cosy; there are also valves on the radiators in the bedrooms so you can adjust the heating to suit if you prefer it a little cooler.

As most of the guests were leaving the hotel early before breakfast would normally be served, Mark and Joyce made arrangements for a cold buffet breakfast with a toaster to be left available for us so that we could sort ourselves out whenever we were ready. This was much appreciated by everyone as none of us wanted the stress of being late! They are thoughtful hosts and we enjoyed our stay very much. I would definitely stay here again if returning to York.

This was our first visit to Gillygate Guest House although we have visited York several times. The accomodation was of a very good standard the room was clean & spacious, breakfast was excellent & you wanted for nothing as Joyce & Mark could not do enough to ensure our stay was just right. GGH was ideal for exploring York with York Minster being a 2 minute walk away & all other sites & facilities were in easy walking distance. We look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Book as early as you can
