I stayed at York but our others friends were a bit Skint, Found Astley House for £70 per room for the night. The hotel rooms were discusting, the Service was Terrible, No Reception, and when you needed a member of Staff, you had to ring a bell and wait in the Lobby, 4 Times I called for Assistance and after 10 Minutes of waiting, I used my iphone to Organize a Taxi. The Owners were a Man and wife team, the wife was foriegn and spoke very Broken English. The Beakfast was the worst breakfast I have ever had in my entire life, No member of staff serving at all, 2 Cheap Toasters, a Bread Bin with a loaf, tea or Coffee, No Orange Juice, a Jug of Milk, and 2 plastic containers of cornflakes. Also when coming home from an evening out, we were giggleing, but not making a loud noise at all, the lady owner opened a door from her private quarters and told us to Shut up, really rude, then slammed the door, then when we got home, I got my Visa bill and they had taken the Money Twice, they needed a Card Number to hold the room, then we paid Cash on arrival, we paid cash on arrival, and they took the monkey from the Card aswell. Totally icompitant, and should be reported to the trading standards .

Easily the worst hotel I've ever stayed in - both because of the lack of cleanliness, the terrible service and the dubious business practices. Paid 50% deposit of the £70 a room tariff in advance but the manager attempted to double the price of the room after we'd checked in. It wasn't worth £70 a night and it certainly wasn't worth the inflated tariff of £140 a night. Having now read the reviews here, and read about the shady practices that go on and the dubious extra charges, you would think either the tax office or the owners of this establishment would start to look into the manger's reluctance to issue receipts and his insistence on cash payments.

For the price (£46 per night) I should have expected it to be lacking in some respects. But it was lacking in EVERYTHING. There was no reception. The room was tiny. I asked for 2 single beds yet we had a room with a coffin bed that folded out and a double 4 poster. Bathroom was the smallest bathroom I've ever seen. Could not even turn around in it. Room was dirty. Breakfast was a joke. Not a good value for the money. The YHA would have most likely been better in this price range.

the hotel was small and didnt smell very nice. the bathroom ceiling had mould all over it and the shower was just disgusting.
i booked the hotel on the internet and thought my payment had been taken...when i got there a lady greeted me with my full card details including the last 3 digits on the back of my card which i was quite suprised at.
the next morning i was told that the 'card machine' wasnt working and i would have to pay by cash which i did. 2 days later i notice a £30 deduction from my account....when i called this was for apparently smoking drugs in the room... i do not even smoke which so natrually was offended by this. the owner said that if i came over to get the money back they would just keep deducting money from me! which we all know is illegal! i have contacted trading standards regards the matter anyway and am currently in the process of taking this hotel to court so my advice....DONT STAY HERE!!!!!! YOU WILL GET ROBBED!!!!
