We booked a Saturday night at Blossoms "Hotel" for which we were charged £96 for a twin room. This is a similar price we have paid for quality hotels in York. Blossoms is a bed and breakfast rather than an hotel, although the front of the building looks very smart. The bedroom we were allocated contained small basic single beds, a very old chest of drawers, and a curtain pole converted into a hanging rail for clothes.
The ensuite was a very small partition in the corner of the room containing an avocado hand basin and loo together with a shower cubicle which was OK. Some pink mottled tiles hung casually finished the room.
We had decided to leave the cat at home for this trip, which was fortunate, as there was certainly no room to swing him in the ensuite - in fact anyone who is more than slim should avoid this experience - there simply will not be room for you!
The various shades or orange and red decor did nothing to enhance the ambience. I found that by climbing on a chair to move the portable TV aerial we could get a picture!
The night belonged to a horror movie. At 2.30am the doors starting to slam all over the house - this continued until 4.00am. Clearly a group of drunken young men, who had brought some extras back with them.
The house has been divided up over the years into smaller rooms so the partition walls do little to muffle the sound!
We were advised at breakfast that a stag party had booked a couple of rooms!
The staff are very friendly. but I'm afraid they are the only plus point at Blossoms. My recommendation is that you book elsewhere.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out a guest review. In light of the reviewers comments, I am grateful for the opportunity to present a more balanced view of the Blossoms.
We have a wide range of room types, from small double rooms, for the traveller who wishes to save their money to enjoy the many attractions of York, up to huge family rooms for 6 people.
On our website, we promise a great location, a warm welcome, clean rooms, a good service & value-for money prices. This is what we deliver!
This is demonstrated by the number of regular & repeat guests we have built up since we took over the Blossoms in Spring 2004. They commend our friendly staff, good quality of housekeeping, relaxed atmosphere & freshly prepared breakfasts. They enjoy staying only 8 minutes walk from the Minster but still being able to park for free.
Over 100 unedited reviews of the Blossoms may be foudn on our ouwn website, along with pictures of all rooms, in order that you may make an informed decision when considering a booking with ourselves.
Since we took over the Blossoms, in March 2004, we have made many improvements. This has included upgrading en-suites & furniture, new windows (to reduce noise) etc. Some 'old' features have remained - to reflect the fact that we are located in a listed buiding dating from 1837.
Our prices for a twin room are generally £40- £55 on weeknights & £65 - £70 at weekends. (These are for the room and NOT per person!) We offer special rates as low as £40 per room per night for stays of 3+ days. Given our location, along with the availability of free parking, these represent excellent value in what is, unfortuanately for both tourists and those living here, an expensive city.
We do all that we can to ensure guests have a pleasant, relaxing stay with us. As part of this, we do not tolerate unappropriate behaviour from guests, especially noise late at night. This is made very clear to guests on arrival. On the night the reviewer visited, the noise did not wake the resident member of staff, neither did any guests call the hotel reception complain. Had we have been aware of any issue, it would of course been dealt with promptly! Whist we most certainly do not target 'stag parties' in our marketing, we equally are not in a position to turn people away at the door who have booked in advance just because we 'don't like the look of them'!
If you are wanting to stay in a great location close to the city centre, with free parking, clean rooms, a friendly welcome from staff with loads of local knowledge & freshly cooked breakfasts then consider the Blossoms. If you are looking for luxury, then head for somewhere like the Grange or Middlethorpe Hall.
We look forward to having the opportunity to welcome you to our wonderful city!
