“Nice hotel in good location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2010

Just stayed at the premier inn for a couple of nights. Impressed with the location as only a short walk from the train station and also the centre.
Staff all seemed reasonably helpful. Room was absolutely massive, seemed a little
expensive but then it is in york.

All in all had a lovely time thanks to hotel & York being a lovely place.

3 nights in a Premier Inn? One night is OK, 2 nights are tolerable, but 3 nights on the hardest mattress I've ever slept on? Never again. The 'Good Sleep Guaranteed' was never really applied here!! Besides, there was no point complaining because there is nothing the hotel management could do about it.

Hotel location was ideal, only 350 metres from the station and 15-20 minutes walk into the City proper.

Check in was smooth, efficient, friendly and welcoming.

The room was clean, spacious and comfortable as long as you don't live there - I'm wondering how some of my colleagues can spend up to 5 weeks in a Premier Inn without being crippled by the mattresses!

Bathroom was also clean and reasonably sized.

Restaurant was acceptable, but the £9.95 2-course deal wasn't exactly limited, more like handicapped! And after 2 nights of the most unimaginative menu, we ate elsewhere especially after two nights and 3 mornings of the loudest waiter there whose strong accent made him louder and he wouldn't stop talking!!! No, I don't want to be his lifelong friend either!!!

Breakfast was good, substantial and excellent value.

Value? Well it is York and the Dick Turpin tradition still carries on there - especially with the room rates! At least Dick Turpin wore a mask when he robbed travellers.

I have stayed here twice with my family and its a good budget hotel. The staff are pleasant and helpful, the rooms are clean, breakfasts are really extremely good and it is very handy for York city centre and shopping.

The only complaint I have is that the bathroom fans can be heard in the night and the bin lorry turns up at 5.30am which woke me up the second time I stayed.

But the rooms are pleasant and the beds are comfortable and all in all its a really good choice for a short break in York.

Top marks for location but as previously stated in other reviews, parking is a big problem. We stayed in the annex part of this hotel which appeared cold and damp, you could visibly see the curtains moving from the draft coming in through the window. Large king sized bed in the room but not much room to move around. The biggest problem was due to the accommodation facing onto a court yard which housed late night drinkers from the pub attached which kept us awake. This was followed the following morning at 5am and 7am by the arrival of noisy refuse collection vans. Will not be stopping here again.
Free breakfast was offered on complaining at reception, however decided not to take up this offer as it would not make up for other travelers experiencing the same problem.

I was a bit nervous about staying here after reading several reviews and having never stayed at a Premier Inn. My wife had stayed at one in London and had no complaints. First from the train station its around a five minute walk and only a 10 minute walk to the centre of York. The walk can be done along the walls to either towards the river and museum gardens or the Castle Museum if you go the other way along the wall. Reception were efficient and polite. Room not huge but the king size bed was a bonus. Shower was brilliant. My only bugbear was the liquid soap but we bought our own proper soap. Bed very comfortable, tv tiny but we were there to explore York and not watch tv. Breakfast was fine, we had table service one day and buffet the next day both were fine. Overall I would definitely stay again and we are planning an additional trip to York in the future and will stay here again.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2010

My boyfriend and I stayed at this Premier Inn, in early February for a 2 night stay. Everything certainly is premier but the price! I was pleasantly surprised to find the room very clean (including the bed linen), it was warm and the quality of the bed meant we had a good night's sleep for each night we were there. The front of house staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable of the area. The only slight problem was that there is only one person manning both the Costa Coffee concession and the hotel bar during the afternoons - long waiting times ensued leaving me losing the will to live on a couple of occasions.

The breakfast is good value for money too, lots of cold and hot items to choose from and you could eat as much as you liked! - all for £7.95pp.

The hotel is in an enviable position 5 minutes from the train station and a walkable 15 minutes to the city centre so we had no need for buses (except the tour bus - excellent) or taxis. This place is perfect if you are travelling by train and I am glad we did as the parking was limited.

Would definitely stay there again and recommend to others.

We stayed here after having trouble finding anywhere- our trip to your wasn't planned in advance.

It's not bad at all- cheaper than other York hotels, clean, and comfortable.

There's a few minor whinges: the parking is limited (but this is made clear, and is true for most of York), the Wi-Fi is expensive, and we had to ask to get towels for 2 people. Soundproofing in the block we were in was adequate but not excellent.

On the plus side, everything worked, there was a decent TV, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was very good.

What really shined was the staff- helpful, polite, friendly and efficient, and the location.
