I have used travelodge frequently and this one is a good hotel ,very helpful staff accommodated my luggage for hours after checkout, bus stop directly outside to the uni comfortable beds, a little bit of a complaint would be to stop using whatever air freshner is put into the carpets because all it did was make me sneeze, but apart from that on gripe well done again travelodge

Arrived 3 hours early to check in but could leave luggage so we could explore york. Location of this hotel is spot on and really close to shops and bars. The room was basic and bed was comfy. Shower hot which is must in December . Staff were friendly. Breakfast wasn't great but over all not a bad stay

We have stayed at both Travelodges in York centre and would have to say I prefer the other one but we booked based on price more than anything this time. Hotel is quite close to the city centre and there are a number of shops and bars nearby. The hotel has a bar on site and the drinks seemed fairly comparable to other pubs. It is about 10 - 15 min walk to the railway station. Rooms didn't seem quite as large as some we have stayed in but it was clean and had a lovely walk in shower. Kettle and drinks on hand for the morning. There is a breakfast room but we didn't use it. I did find the hotel noisy but mainly from external noise - cars, bin lorries etc. It was decent value though especially when you think about the location.

You really can't fault this hotel for its location - it's less than a 5 minute easy walk into York.

Unfortunately, that's one of only a small number of good things I can say about it......

Car parking is at an ncp place across the road, & whilst it is discounted by 1/3 to hotel guests it is still expensive.

The hotel lobby is clean - the broken window has now been fixed, & checking in is easy enough. Our room was apparently ready when we got there at 14:15 but they wanted an extra £10 to check us in the 45mins early so we left our bags in a locked room.

Once we got up stairs tho the first thing you notice is the stains on the carpet - they make you cringe, is it spilt drinks? Vomit? Who knows!!!

Room was roasting hot, had to open the window then figure out how to operate the electric wall heater - a simple thermostat would have been brilliant but it wasn't that simple....

The room itself just felt tired, felt like it needed a fresh lick of paint - it didn't feel homely in anyway, it all just felt old!!!

Walk in Shower was nice.

I know it's a budget hotel, the plan is its just somewhere 2 lay your head - I guess it therefore does what it says on the tin, however other chains on the same road do appear to give much better quality for the same value.

Although a little noisy one night as next to a bar, overall a pleasant hotel, about 10 mins walk from the station. Loved that it had a left luggage facility, (although up a few steps), lack of one usually makes me go to other hotels as we are on the go constantly so no time to hang about for check-ins & always leave in a hurry to catch trains too. Good it had a lift from the ground floor. Staff friendly & helpful. Disappointed no hot drink making facility in room as very cold during our stay. The quilt wasn't very wide so when we rolled over we had exposed backs. For the ladies there was no good light or magnifying mirror to do our makeup & only about 6 hangers on a pole one side of the room & a tiny bedside shelf. The glass sink unit looked lovely but being short I found it a bit of a stretch to reach the taps as it stuck out a coulpe of inches. Overall a good place £170 for 2 nights.

Very basic, but friendly staff and in a prime area for shops and bars. Basics in the room but manageable. If you need a bed for the night, then it's fine. Breakfast not included, felt it could be, we have stayed in other hotels near by for a similar price with breakfast included.

We booked this hotel back at the beginning of July as we had various pre Christmas events on in York and had been looking forward to the weekend very much - then along came Travelodge!!

The reason we had booked this Travelodge was for it's location to York and we would be within walking distance of the various things we had planned - ideal!

We set off from Hertfordshire on the morning of Friday 12th December, and just over an hour into our journey I had a phone call from the Manager of the Travelodge saying that they couldn't accommodate us at Micklegate as there had been a flood overnight due to a burst water pipe! Do they not lag their pipes at Travelodge?!!! They had now booked us into the Travelodge at Tadcaster. When I asked how we get there, she had no idea so just gave me a postcode and phone number to ring them and find out. We stopped at the next services to try and find out where this hotel was in relation to Micklegate. When we discovered that it was 11.5 miles away and this was not acceptable in terms of location, I called the manager at Micklegate to say this was unacceptable. At this point she said they would pay for taxis into York for us - no mention of this in the earlier phone call though. Ok, not ideal, but we felt we had no choice but to go along with this!

We arrive at Travelodge Tadcaster to be greeted (if that's the right word) by a young female, clearly very inexperienced at her job. No apology or explanation was offered as to why we had ended up there instead of Micklegate. When we asked what was going on, she said she had no idea, she was just having to deal with their slack!!!!! Oh dear, I've been called some things in my time, but never anybody's slack!!! Maybe overflow would have been a better word on this occasion!!! We asked her to sort us out a taxi for the evening, which wasn't straightforward as it's not easy to get a taxi in York on a Friday night.

Forward an hour or so when we were ready to go out, it was only at this point whilst waiting in reception for our taxi that we found out (not from reception but from other guests in the hotel) that they didn't serve breakfast at Tadcaster: we had already booked and paid for breakfast at Micklegate, so how was that going to work? When we queried this with the same lady who had 'greeted' us at reception, we were told that we would have to get in a taxi the next morning and go the 11.5 miles for breakfast at Micklegate!!! What!!! At this point, I was looking around for the hidden cameras, you have got to be joking, that's absolutely ridiculous!!!! The manager at Micklegate hadn't mentioned that one on the phone earlier!!!!

Anyway, we had our evening out and returned to Tadcaster to get a night's sleep. 4.30 in the morning, we were woken by very noisy guests returning to their room. Ok, they're back now, let's get back to sleep - not so likely, their commotion went for for over half an hour, doors banging, shouting to each other, laughing etc! At this point, my husband and I decided enough was enough, we weren't staying in this place and there was no way we were going along with their ridiculous set up of getting in a taxi to go and have our breakfast and then spend the day back and forth in taxis so we could carry out our plans for the day. So at around 5 a.m. I went to find the manager, only to be told the manager was on holiday and the supervisor had left, or was it the other way round! So that left 'Chris' in charge, who appeared to be the only person on site - well he actually wasn't on site because when I rang for assistance he returned from outside having 'just been to the bin'!!! As well as making him aware of the commotion going on I told him this whole set up was ridiculous and we were not staying a minute longer! He agreed it was ridiculous although offered us no recompense. He did give us a refund for our stay but only when I told him I wasn't paying a penny! He had to make phone calls to get authority to do this and also to get authority to give us a refund for our taxis the previous evening, because he told us we really should have got in a taxi and gone to Micklegate and they would refund us!!!! You're having a laugh, not so likely. We were refunded our stay back onto our debit card and the taxi money came out of petty cash, which we cleared them out of with the grand sum of just under £40!!!! When I said what about some recompense for our entire weekend being ruined, I was told this couldn't happen.

We left the hotel at 6 a.m, unshowered because there was no hot water, no breakfast and set off home having abandoned the rest of our plans in York for that day because this wasn't how we'd planned our weekend! Oh and 'Chris'' parting words to us were ' see ya then' - not so likely Travelodge, you won't be seeing us again!
