Impressive how this pub/restaurant does all the usual things, but better.
Furnishings/decorations are standard, but very well kept. Staff were well dressed and helpful. Good beer (Copper Dragon was so delicious), also well kept. Wine list a bit more interesting than usual, amusing, and reasonably priced.
Some imaginative food offered (pigeon breast, kale and chicory as available vegetables), well cooked. Pies and burgers properly home made. The owner clearly take justifiable pride in every aspect of what she does.
So, not Michelin type interior decorated gastropub, but a definite step up from the usual .No, two steps at least.
Prices are fair for the good quality you get.
Nearly full at midweek lunch so guess that booking advisable.
Well done all round and recommended
Note - a reminder that this is not the Red Lion in the centre of York but the one in a quiet hamlet signposted just off the northern ring road. Worth the detour.
