....for a lovely meal. Fresh, exquisitely cooked food, good choice across the menu, friendly yet unobtrusive hosts. The early bird was great value.

“Wholesome, delicious food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful meal during the weekend before Christmas. We opted for the set menu, 2 courses for £21. The presentation and quality of food was outstanding and great value for money. The scallops as a starter were fresh, whilst the beef for main course was succulent and tender. The chef personally checked whether we had enjoyed our meal and service was very good. We had a glass of house wine with our meal that complimented the meal perfectly. We would highly recommend a visit when in York.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

We had read the menu beforehand and the four of us had been looking forward to a nice steak. When we arrived we were informed that steak was off because it had been well ordered the previous evening ( don't any butchers in York sell steak on a Saturday)? We were also informed that there were 4 chicken left, two salmon - everything else was on but the only other dish was halloumi which obviously wasn't as popular as the steak. As we were the only four diners booked in for Sat 11th Jan it made us wonder what they would have fed anyone else who turned up as we had the four chicken that were left which meant that there were only two salmon and endless halloumi left.TALK ABOUT DIAPPOINTED! Not worth a return visit!

“A lovely place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

After walking our feet off with our 2 lovely greyhouinds (milly & Katie) we just wanted a nice place to sit outside as we have the dogs and have a nice cuppa and a cake. We fell upon this little gem and what a lovely place. It was busy inside with a large group having sunday din dins and it all looked yummy. We had a drink and sampled some home made cakes and scones, they were very nice. We had a good chat with the owners sister who, bless her was on holiday visiting but also helping out. If we had not had such a big breaky we would have had lunch. The menu is great and the food looks/sounds fab. We were only in York for the day but when we are next in the area we will vist for luinch or dinner. Give it a go.

“Homely afternoon tea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

Afternoon cream tea for two - £10.00

Very fresh scones, good atmosphere, friendly service and periodicals to hand.

Independent coffee and tea shops need our support so that we are not engulfed by a tsunami of mediocre (at best) chains!

Spread the jam and spread the word!
