“Convenient but sadly not impressive. There are better hotels”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

We usually stay at the Holiday Inn in York when visiting the City but this was disappointing. The good bits...a nice warm welcome, pleasant staff, good parking, lovely hot chocolate in the bar and good breakfast. It is conveniently located and close to the Racecourse which is a nice area. However, The room was very tight, and a bit dowdy.....I am not big and I cd hardly get into the bathroom and close the door! The towels were really 'grotty' ....thin and grey instead of white. Horrid, horrid! The bathroom was sadly in a pretty poor state. The bedroom was clean enough and bedding beautifully clean and crisp with good pillows. I think maybe the fourth floor needs some attention! Certainly, some attention is required to the rooms which do not make for a pleasant stay? Will rethink the next stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a decent sized and positioned room with good bathroom not too high up and for nice fluffy...

We stayed here for one night in October. Our room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the carpark with very large windows. Spacious and quiet room, clean bright bathroom and a fantastic buffet breakfast. Only complaint was no free wifi. Oh, and no fridge (which seems to be standard for most hotels in the UK), so we carried this one large bottle of beer halfway round England and Scotland with nowhere to chill it! Ended up donating it to housekeeping in the last place we stayed!!! Overall, a comfortable place to stay in a very pretty town.

Stayed one night (room only). Plenty of parking available. Check in was easy , staff very polite and helpful. My room was on 2nd floor overlooking the rear car park. Large spacious room with 2 beds, good lighting and large windows with lots of natural light. Clean and fresh - bathroom had full size bath, with great shower (limited complimentary toiletries but perfectly adequate). Room had trouser press, iron, hair dryer , flat screen TV & kettle with tea/coffee provided. The bed was extremely comfortable. What I didn't like was no free wifi in the room or even in the reception areaI think in this day and age that should be standard. Advised by reception that the bar was open all night but actually it closed at 12pm and there was a sign stuck on it with instructions - we decided not to bother and went to bed. We didn't book breakfast and were advised at check in we could add it on for £9 per person or just turn up in the morning and pay £14 per head - overpriced by anyone's standard - we went to Tesco up the road and had a full English with toast and coffee for just £4.50 per head. Location - very convenient for the racecourse. On the whole a nice place but probably overpriced if I'm honest.

Room Tip: We heard someone complaining about dogs in the room next door - thankfully we were checking out - I...

We had a great room, very clean and well made up each time we returned back from a day out.
The food in the restaurant was delicious with a good choice and all well cooked. Service by Edmund was great. Thanks
Breakfast a good spread and lots of it.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor and did not hear any noise. Good nights sleep

I would like to thank you for a wonderful stay, excellent Hotel with good facilities and warm and friendly staff. The location is ideal to hop on a bus into Town as the bus stop was nearly outside the front door. The rooms has been refurbished to a good standard and the only downside is the small bathroom which is a bit tight if you are big folks like us. 32" HD TV was great but the Internet connection price is a bit steep in this day and age and needs to be reviewed. Cracking buffet breakfast and the restaurant at night has a good menu to suit most tastes, the Manager and staff worked their socks off as it was half term week but to their credit always had a smile on their face and were attentive.
Overall we will stay here again in the future and I would recommend this Hotel.

This hotel is situated about 2 miles from the centre of York it as ample car parking for all the guest the staff are very friendly and helpful. It is easy to get to the city centre by bus you can buy an adult day ticket for £3.70 which you can use on all first bus routes we did not use the car once we arrived. We found the hotel food to be well presented but the evening meals were a bit small for the price and the drinks expensive after the first evening was choose to eat out at nearby pubs. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We had no problems with noise even thou we were on the ground floor near to the entrance. The breakfast is what you would expect at this kind of hotel we had to ask for tea/coffee on two out of the three days we was there need to install a couple of hot drink machine's so one can help themselves.

we had 2 nights here and found the hotel to be clean, comfortable with friendly staff. We had a standard room which was good; it would have benefitted from 2chairs rather than one, but only a minor issue. Breakfast is fantastic. We ate in the restaurant one night and found the food pleasant but overpriced; the second night we ate in the pub across the road, which was much better value. We found the location good as it took 2 minutes to drive to the park and ride facility which ran buses @£2.60 per person return every 10 minutes even on a Sunday. The bus journey took 10 mins and stopped in a number of locations across the city. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: 4th floor at front had pleasant views.
