“BEAUTIFUL GETAWAY.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

I have just got back from a night at Grays Court. it was surprise and found everything amazing. from the service to the whole environment. We were greeted by a new member of staff that was her second day and dealt with us brilliantly. We were shown the bar and breakfast area even though there was private function we did not feel unwelcome but to join and enjoy our stay. Our room was fantastic with a beautiful 4 poster bed and lovely furniture. i wish we could have stayed there longer. We missed breakfast because the bed was so comfy but told us we could still eat. Fantastic service. I will be going back next time in in york for afternoon and to enjoy the grounds.

Unfortunately I didn't stay at Grays Court but attended a wedding there on August 29th. It was an amazing experience, from the champagne on arrival and wedding ceremony in the beautiful garden summer house, to a delicious meal in the long gallery, to the evening events and buffet, it was meticulously planned and executed down to the last detail. I imagine the passersby on York City walls must have thought they were witnessing a celebrity wedding and I am sure that the bride and groom and everyone who attended felt like a celebrity! Nothing was too much trouble for the attentive staff. Thank you!

My daughter chose Grays Court as the venue for her wedding, sole use of the hotel was booked so all rooms were occupied by the wedding party. The hotel is an historic building which has been modernised to provide spacious accommodation. The gardens are amazing and the weather was fine so the ceremony was held in the summer house. We stayed two nights, the eve of the wedding and the wedding day. The staff were friendly and helpful and did all they could to make the day run smoothly, which it did. The breakfasts were very good with a large range of options. The meal for the reception was excellent and the service was very good. Delighted that my daughter and her husband to be chose Grays Court, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay.

We visited Grays Court for Afternoon Tea last weekend, as part of my birthday celebrations. The hotel sits beside the Treasurer's House, and is a very short walk from the Minster. The property has recently been upgraded and now has several very well laid out rooms, and beautiful gardens We sat in the gardens, and enjoyed a very pleasant couple of hours grazing on nice food in a lovely surrounding. We had been advised the service wasn't great but in fact on two visits now it has been absolutely fine. The food was beautifully presented and portions were a good size, without being excessive. We've really enjoyed both visits and will be back, often.

This Hotel is a 900 year old building, which has been superbly modernised to provide comfortable well equipped and clean, character rooms by the owner proprietor. We stayed two nights in the Cumberland suite which has large windows and a super view of the garden and city walls, loads of space, big bed and a huge modern bathroom. There is a charming library/lounge, a breakfast /music room and restaurant as well as a bar in the "long gallery". Location is fantastic enabling you to walk to all the main attractions in York, although it is tucked away in a private courtyard so lt is peaceful, Quaint and private. We enjoyed the tasting menu for dinner. Good food, nicely presented , cooked and served by members of the family, and the charming, helpful Sean. Space for about 7 cars in the courtyard, which is about one space for each bedroom!
We would certainly stay again and are happy to recommend. There is no lift (its an ancient listed building) so you need to be able to climb the stairs.

Room Tip: Cumberland suite is large, bright and airy, with large bed, windows, and bathroom. Great view of the...

We stayed here for a city break for my birthday. A lovely location, our room overlooked the walls and the beautiful gardens. We stayed in the Cumberland suite, which was beautiful and very spacious. the bathroom was contemporary designed and very luxurious. We had warm cookies and tea upon arrival that were delicious and a very nice gesture. The hotel was packed with nostalgia along with some very nice art pieces.
We ate in the Duel restaurant, the service and the food was perfect. All staff were friendly and helpful.
All in all, a hidden gem in the heart of York, that we will will be going back to for a December break

If the weather is good take the opportunity to eat in their gardens adjoining the city walls. I had the pesto chicken open sandwich which was super with great presentation. In winter choose one if the alcoves inside.
