“Better than Betty's!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

My friend and I went for afternoon tea on a Wednesday afternoon and it was perfect. I was able to book in advance, with just one days notice, and secure a buy one get one half price deal. So the value was outstanding.

The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was of a very high standard, with a good mix of sandwiches, cakes and a wide choice of different teas. There were even 4 varieties of jam for the scones!

The restaurant was really quiet with only a couple of other tables occupied. This meant we were left to take our time and have a very leisurely afternoon in grand but relaxed surroundings.

I have also had afternoon tea at Betty's, which pales in comparison. Although the food is lovely at Betty's you have to queue for a silly amount of time before being squashed into a crowded room and rushed through an overpriced meal. If you are having afternoon tea in York I would strongly recommend visiting Cedar Court Grand instead. Here the food is just as good as Betty's, but with more variety - whilst the setting, atmosphere, pace, service and price are far better!

We will definitely be back!

“Nice cup of tea ( tea leaves) but £26 per person a tiny bit expensive”

Would have liked to have been asked brown / white bread, Plus a refresh of tea would have been welcomed.

“Heaving plates for afternoon tea of epic proportions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

Loved the wide choice of goodies, loved the great quality, loved the sheer volume of food - so much though that its difficult juggling everything on the table with so little room for so many dishes!

What a wonderful way to treat a friend on her birthday! 'Afternoon Tea' in a beautiful but thoroughly modern hotel in the fabulous historic city of York! What a lovely experience, we were treated like queens by the wonderful staff at Cedar court hotel, where nothing seemed too much trouble. Many thanks to all concerned for making this a very special occasion.
