“Fantastic hotel with best breakfast ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights (saturday and sunday) whilst visiting york for a weekend away. This hotel is lovely and I would recommend it. Our room was very clean and spacious with four poster bed, sofas, tv, tea and coffee facilities and a large bathroom. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was the best breakfast ive had with loads of choice from full english breakfast to cereals, fresh fruit, boiled eggs, a variety of bread and cheese and meat. One morning I had scrambled egg with smoked salmon on a toasted muffin and it was delicious. The gardens of the hotel are beautiful. The weather was bad when we were there but I imagine it would be beautiful in the nice weather. The hotel isnt right in the centre of york but it has free parking which is why we chose it. We walked to the centre and its about a 10-15 minute walk which wasnt to bad as we stopped in pubs along the way. We also found that even the staff in the nearby bars were also really friendly and asking us if we were enjoying our stay. In the centre of York there are lots of lovely little shops and bars and restaurants. We will definately return.

Me and my girlfriend have just returned from a 2 night weekend break, yes the hotels not a nice brand new chain hotel but a lovely individual hotel, well kept, well set out for a small hotel, pool and facilities was not busy, we literally had our own pool all weekend.

The staff was very friendly and helpfully and seem to enjoy working there, the breakfast was 1 of the best we have tasted,.

Burbridges next door to hotel was amazing, the food is In a class of its own, Simon the manager is brilliant and takes time to make sure you have totally enjoyed your food and drinks.

When I visit York again I will not even look for another hotel and will def dine at burbridges..

Thank you for an amazing break

Room Tip: Garden suites right next to pool and jacuzzi and very peacfull, beds are massive!!!!

This is a good hotel. The buildings date back to the 1830's and the owners have endeavoured to retain as much of the period features both inside and out as possiblem, making it a quirky place to stay.
Our room, No 8 was on the top floor at the front of the building and accessed via steep stairs. It was spacious clean and comfortable but with the windows open, subject to traffic noise. If you want quietness request a room overlooking the rear gardens.
Downstairs there are bar, lounge and breakfast dining rooms. Adjacent but within the hotel is a restaurant Burridges, which is independant of the hotel and serves superb evening meals.
Outside there is a large garden, patio areas, covered dining/drinking area, pool and spa.
I have stayed in many top class hotels around the world but none can match the breakfast options or quality the Mount Royale serves.
Finally, I must mention the staff and particularly Rob, who provided excellent helpful and informative assistance.
Would I stay here again, absolutely.
P.S. If you like Italian food there is a nice affordable restaurant La Sputinis about 200 mtrs from the hotel, towards Micklegate.

Room Tip: If you want a quietness request a room at the rear overlooking the garden. If you have mobilty probl...

Stayed here for 1 night and I was extremely happy with the hotel. The staff were helpful and the location was good. I also thought the gardens were wonderful and although i didn't use the pool and hot tub, next time I will. The breakfast in the morning was also superb and I wouldn't hesitate to book here again when I visit York.

We stayed for one night as we were in York for a wedding.
Easily the best cooked breakfast we've had.
Big rooms, lovely staff, good location, car park, perfectly heated pool.
Very good value for money in York!
Will stay again.

The pool, hot tub, sauna & steam were right at the end of a garden. As mentioned previously, not ideal for someone with mobility difficulties. It was not very luxurious and seemed very makeshift, most of it was compiled into an assortment of garden sheds. Having been to several spa days previously, I thought the lack of professionalism with the layout and facilities was very noticeable. It just wasn't very luxurious. The day of our visit (early Sept) was lovely and sunny, so we were able to be out doors beside the small pool. I have no idea what we would have done if the weather was poor. I expect it would have been rather grim. The treatment was fantastic, a 20 min massage included in our deal. However, I called 24hours prior to arrival and was unable to book another treatment, disappointing. In addition - our treatments were not scheduled until 5pm, which was closing time. This was not ideal at all. I'd like to add that the young lady giving the treatment was fab. We paid £20 for the 5 hour spa day, which was a fantastic deal. I think I would have been extremely disappointed had I paid more. We had a nice day, but it was far from the luxury we had hoped for.

Thank you for your feedback.
The Spa is an independently run business to the hotel but it does clearly state in the hotel and spa web site that the facilities are located at the end of the garden.

As you will appreciate the hotel and gardens were built in the 1830’s and as a Grade II listed building we must adhere to very stringent regulations.

I must point to the ‘Garden Shed’ (Imported Scandinavian Log Cabins) are of a construction so to blend in with the Old English Garden Surroundings.

If we do have inclement weather (most of this summer!!) a lounge area with complimentary coffee and tea plus a heated outdoor gazover are available for the spa users, and we believe everything offered is value for money.

The spa is extremely popular with many regular, return and new customers and therefore it can be difficult to request additional or alter treatments at such short notice without disrupting all other pre booked treatments, although they do try and accommodate any requests as and when they can.

We do appreciate customer feedback, shall take note and pass on your comments to the
Body-tonix proprietor and hope to welcome you back in the future.

My wife and I had a lovely stay at this hotel for a couple of nights 8th and 9th August. Nice big rooms and full bathrooms although for some reason our room was far too warm and the floor standing fan pretty useless. The staff were very pleasant from arrival to departure and the hotel had some very nice old features. Lovely grounds to the rear and nice pool, pity it wasn't as clean as you might expect.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that isn't roasting! Although rooms facing the garden have a nicer quieter outlo...
