“Pretty much a railway station”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

I'm not sure what you have to review a railway station against. Availability of stairs? Quality of railings? Having been used to stations of a similar era from London, the York station is pretty much of the same quality.

“A very pleasent railway station with good bike storeage and a nice pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

As far as train stations go, it's one of the nicer ones with plenty of cycle storage racks, various food outlets and a very decent pub (The Tap) which offers a wide range of beers.

It's also a more attractive station compared to other stations (heading the Birmingham New Street anyone!?)

Another plus compared to other stations: the toilets are free to use!

I'm giving it a 4/5 because the stairs the the main bridge can become quite crowded and there isn't a ramp for bikes, you have to take a lift and use the underground subway.

“Wonderful gateway to the City of York”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Many might recognise the station from Harry Potter or Chariots of Fire - in which it had bit-parts, but most recognise this lovely victorian station as their first sight of the City of York

Built originally in 1839 from wood, it has survived bomb damage in WW2 and is a major station on the east coast arterial route between London and Edinburgh - the UK's fastest rail line. It lies on the East Coast Main Line 188 miles north of London's King's Cross Railway Station towards Edinburgh's Waverley Railway Station. Times between London and York are as little as 1 hour 40 mins.

Originally it was part of the North Eastern Railway. York Railway Station is one of the most important railway junction stations on the British Railway Network, approximately halfway between Edinburgh to London Kings Cross. It is also a few miles north of the point where the Cross Country and Trans-Pennine routes via Leed Railway Station leave the East Coast Main Line.

It has lots of passenger facilities - a burger joint; convenience store; newsagent; coffee shops and one of the best railway station pubs anywhere in the UK - The York Tap provides 20 real ales on draught to the weary traveller 7 days per week.

“Costa coffee shop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

This has the best people watching seats I've ever come across - perched up in what I assume was the old signal box. Waiting for over an hour for my train, excellent drinks and sandwiches.
