“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

The Minster is an awesome place, and so beautiful. Our older son's graduation was there several years ago, and it was thhe perfect place. York is beautiful anyway, one of my favourite cities, and the Minsterr is just one very good reason to visit.

“Feed your spiritural needs at York Minster Tea at Mulberry Hall.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

I've been going to York Minster for over 50 years I visited first before the fire destroyed the Rose Window and after it had been restored to its glorious best.

I like to visit for Choral Evensong which usually takes place at 5.15pm Tues to Staturday tele 01904.557200 for comfirmation. the chorister voices are sublime.

York Minster Nights are taking place on the 30th/31st October,& 1st& 2nd November, 2013. for info go to the York Minster. Website.

When I have fullfilled my spiritual needs on a normal daily visit, I usually
go to Mulberry House The Finest Bone China Shop in the UK, buy an item of either Moorcroft or Daum and proceed to the Mulberry Hall Coffee
Shop, there is nothing better than drinking the finest coffee or tea from
a fine bone china cup. The teas and cakes are mouthwatering good.

“Spectacular Minster”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

This place is HUGE! It was impossible for us to take a photo of the entire minster, it was just too big. We attended the evensong while we were there but didn't manage to go back for a tour of the place. That was a slight disappointed as even though we got to see the inside, there was just so much to know and learn about the place.

“2013 ~ Legal Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

Attended the Annual Legal Service which was well represented by various Legal types.
It's always good to visit, I make a point of looking at the past Archbishops list, enjoy seeing my old relative's name on the list.
Impressive Minster, plenty to see including the below ground level exhibition.

“Under the Minster”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

The York minster is a lovely cathedral, easily comparable to many other fine European ones. Some people gaaze at the stained glass windows and the carved stone and are impressed but file it away as like so many others. The *real* beauty of York is underneath.

In the 1970s the stewards of the cathedral realized it was settling dangerously and some action needed to be taken. However, shoring up a standing, centuries-old edifice is no simple feat. They hired a team of engineers who devised an ingenious plan: to dig UNDER the Minster, find a solid footing, jack up the sagging areas and then gently lower the entire structure onto its new footings. So from a modern construction standpoint, that project alone would have been enough of a challenging feat.

But when the engineers excavated under the cathedral they found that it had been placed on the ruins of an earlier structure from the Roman era. Rather than bury these ruins again for centuries, the cathedral team decided to expose what they could, build around the ruins, and leave the ruins in the undercroft open as a separate visitors' site. Thus, although it is not unusual for a renaissance structure to be built on the site of a medieval one, this is one rare instance in which you can actually tour the more ancient underground.

Also, in the Roman Bath Pub in town you can peer through a glass floor to see Roman ruins in the pub's cellar.
