“A cathedral that can make an atheist believe in God :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

I'll start by saying I have no interest in organized religion but these historic churches and cathedrals are awe inspiring to anyone. And York Minster is one of the best.

The detailed wood work, the beautiful memorials and graves inside, the statues, the stained glass.... completely beautiful. You can spend hours taking pictures. And dont forget to look up! Bring your zoom lens and zoom in on the carved plaques that hide the ceiling joints. So amazing.

“Spectacular and inspiring”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

We arrived just in time for the last tower climb.....worth the effort to see the town of York. We attended Evensong and were inspired by the beautiful voices and worship.

“Inspiring”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

Well worth the visit. It is amazing what they accomplished in the middle ages under the guise of religion. A spectacular cathedral, inside and out.

“Overpowering!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

I'm not a religious person and feel awkward when going into a church, this was 10 times worse and I felt the entrance fee was too much. On the other hand my husband was in his element and enjoyed every minute of his 3 hour visit. I did enjoy listening outside though to the clock chiming and the bells although that was a recording.
