“Don't miss this when visiting the Minster!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2014

You can easily miss this window on the East side of York Minster, but it fabulous & worth looking for.
The window was constructed to mark the end of the War of the Roses' so it's well old.

“A Rare Close Up”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

Normally the face of God is so far up you cannot see it, but on this fascinating tour of the work of the conservators who are working on York Minster's Great East Window I was given a close up view of the panel which tops the whole window - God "The Alpha and Omega".
I arrived at York MInster at 1.40 and discovered that on a Monday and Friday there is a tour of the conservation of the East Window beginning at 2pm.
I paid my £7.50 and went tot he meeting point where Chris was on hand to guide me. I was the only person on the tour on this occasion and was grateful that this well informed guide should give a good hour of his time to show me the work, explaining the process and answering any questions that came into my head. His knowledge, of the process, the window and it;s significance, was extensive and as he showed me into the workshop I felt myself privileged to see the careful work of the two conservators who were working on a panel of the window - each one takes 500 hours and the results are astonishing.
At the end of the tour I was returned to the Minster and the marvelous interactive interpretive area in the east of the building. This alone is a fascinating and informative attraction.
If you have an interest in history, stained glass or art then this is an hour well spent. If spirituality is important to you then this will be supremely valuable.

“Must see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

This is one of those examples of having to know what you’re looking for, in order to fully appreciate it. The Rose Window sits on top of the front of York Minster, and represents the end of the Tudor wars. But if that hadn’t been pointed out to me in advance, I wouldn’t have recognised it for what it is, an excellent example of medieval art of major historical significance.

A must see on a sunny day from the inside.

“Visually fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013 via mobile

From either inside or outside this is a most wonderful price of art. The glass colours are fantastic and the overall size is breathtaking.
Some work ongoing so a little limited from the inside for photographs.
