“Charming & Quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

I almost don't want to write a review because we want it to be available for our next trip to York.

It is a small hotel that feels more like a B&B. The ladies that own and operate it are friendly and attentive. Our room was well appointed with reasonable storage space and kettle for coffee and tea. The bed was so comfortable, we slept later than usual. The bathroom was small but well designed with a wonderful soaking tub, rain shower head and good lighting. Breakfast was good. There are a few parking spaces on site and a large pay parking lot nearby. It is an easy walk to all the sites.

Considering the owners have only been in the place for just over 18 months they have done a great job. All the internal areas wer very nicely decorated and carpeted, a very nice house inside. We had a "bigger bed" room. The bed and linnen etc were excellent. All very clean and crisp. Lots of nice touches like the toiletries, towels, tea and coffee facilities, big flat screen TV, etc. Breakfast was very tasty as well. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. You are made to feel that they really care, which sadly is not always the case. Small FREE car park or complementary free parking nearby a big bonus, free wifi. What I really liked was there were no added costs and booking direct was easy (get free breakfast as well that way). Deserves to suceed.

Just returned from a relaxing weekend in York. When looking for a hotel we were expecting to choose one of the larger 'chains' but found St Denys during an internet search and once we'd read the reviews it seemed the obvious choice. So glad we did, what a lovely place managed by two lovely sisters who were so friendly and helpful. We stayed in room 12 on the ground floor, known as 'the biggest room', it was extremely comfortable with an enormous bed and all the facilities you could want and it has wooden shutters to the windows which is such a lovely period feature. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and cooked to perfection. It is 5 minutes walk to the shops (and Christmas markets!) and with a varied choice of restaurants close by, we particularly enjoyed the Thai restaurant just yards from the hotel. We will definitely be returning and would recommend this delightful place to anyone.

My partner and I spent three nights in this lovely hotel just three minutes from the city centre. Our room was so cosy and comfortable and spotlessly clean. The breakfast menu is very varied and cooked to order.Delicious.Run by Sophie and Maria, nothing is too much trouble, the atmosphere so warm and welcoming and all with lovely smiles.I cannot think of staying anywhere else in York.Only one problem.St. Denys could become so popular that we are unable to get a booking!

Room Tip: There are only 12 rooms and I am sure the owners would be happy to advise.

After reading the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, we had great expectations, and wwere not disappointed. We were greeted in the car park and made to feel welcome immediatley. The room was large, well furnished with gorgeous wooden shutters, glorious large bed with clearly high quality cotton sheets. Lovely toiletries and a wonderful large shower head. The room was lovely and warm. The food served at breakfast was delicious and cooked fresh, good quality food and the room was lovely - the pictures don't do this room justice as it is so bright, airy, and decorated beautifully. The owners seem genuinely interested in ensuring that guests are having a good time in York and are lovely. The location is spot on for convenience into the city.

Room Tip: If a light sleeper, then a room at the side or back might be preferable. Lovely light, large rooms.
