I booked this hotel for a weekend away for myself and my boyfriend. The hotel location is absolutely perfect, five minutes through the beautiful park and you are right in the centre of things. Really easy to find too. I was worried about parking in the NCP but it was relatively safe, just park under a security camera for peace of mind. Make sure to get a voucher from the hotel for £8 24hr as normal charges are extortionate -£5.70 for three hours sunday!!
The hotel itself is fine. Good points and bad points average things out. Good points consist of the location, the majority of staff are lovely, restaurant for breakfast is clean and tidy. Breakfast is pretty standard. Appears that the number of sausage and rashers depend on how busy they are but plenty of cereal toast ect. Stay clear of the hot drinks machine though :s !
The room was a good size and good quality furniture. But. Our double was two singles pushed together- not unheard of but when one is an inch taller than the other its very irritating and definitely noticeable! Bedding was very comfortable and clean. Serious issue with the shower. Very fancy fittings with extra jets and settings but absolutely SCALDING. Far too hot to use. We asked for help from reception who sent up a member of staff. His thoughts were that the controls were stiff and if thats the lowest itll go 'I assume thats just it'. Not the most helpful. Bath was small but fantastic and jets for jacuzzi bubbles but no shower for a whole weekend is not acceptable I don't think, especially not with that response.
Serious issue number two! Rudely awaken in the middle of the night by a mortal drunk middle aged man opening our bedroom door!!! We didnt have a clue how he got past the card lock but after speaking to reception the next day found out that the doors sometimes need hinges tightened due to the age of building and weight of hotel fire doors. So sometimes it catches on the doorframe and doesnt actually shut. Having said that the man who was working was truly lovely and absolutely mortified that itd happened to us.
General cleanlines in the hotel was fine. bedding ect was spot on, on closer inspection little things had been missed e.g. under the shower screen, dusty windowsills ect but nothing that impacted your stay.
Basically the Jorvik is a standard two/three star hotel. Without the shower issue itd have been pretty perfect. For people wanting a basic place to stay close to town you cant beat the location. I wouldnt have paid full rates for it but with LateRooms rates it was fitting. A bit more attention to basic detail and theyd go from mediocre to brilliant.
